Running for Bacon: Training Days 11, 12, 13
Running for Bacon is Back!! About time, eh?? Day 11, I finished awhile back. Then I vanished for awhile. Why is it so hard to motivate myself to run after work?
Anyway, I have been continuing on with the Couch to 5K runs. They are feeling challenging, but good. I always feel good after my run. And I hear you never regret the workout you finish!
Day 11 was 3 minutes running, 2 minutes walking, 5 minutes running, 3 minutes walking, another 5 minutes running and 3 minutes walking, then 3 minutes running and 2 minutes walking to bring the run to a close (with the normal 5 minutes of warm up and cool down)
Day 12 was just this Monday and was 5+3, 6+3, 5R
Day 13 was today. 5+3, 8+5, 5
Here are some scenes from the runs. Wish me luck to keep things up now!!

Running for Bacon: Training Day 10
I’m playing a bit of catch up here. I caught up with my running, and now am going to catch up with my running posts!
This last week I was back in the swing of the Couch 2 5K training. I think I am now half-way through this “getting back to running” training. After that, I will get on with a 10K program so I can run a race at the end of April, and then it’s on to marathon training.
But, for this last week I started on Monday. Bear in mind, I was back to work on Monday, so I ran after work, in the dark. Luckily, while it was chilly and a bit damp, it was NOT raining. The intervals for session 10 were: run 3 walk 2, run 4 walk 3, run 4 walk 3, run 3 walk 2. Getting closer and closer to running with no walking breaks. I should note that this run felt great! In fact, all my runs this week felt great. Maybe running later in the day, dark or not, is a good thing!
And, without further ado, this is what I saw along the way!
Running for Bacon: Training Day 9
So Tuesday I went out for my 9th training run. It was a bit more challenging, being 2 min walk / 2 min run twice, and 3 min run / 3 min walk twice (of course, with the warm-up and cool-down walks). But after the first interval it started to feel nice. Kilometer-age for this run: 3.5K.
And, while it was chilly, it was quite beautiful out there, as you can see from the pictures I took during those nice walking breaks.
Until Training Day 10, happy running (or sitting, or eating bacon…just happy!)
Running for Bacon: Training Day 8
At last, my long overdue post of my run from Christmas Eve Day. I am a bit behind with the training too, in that I was very lazy for the past few days, but did pick it all up again today.
But enough of that. December 24th brought a similar run to Training Day 7: 1 1/2 minute run/walk, 2 1/2 minute run walk, each interval twice (with the warm up and cool down). Today was a little more intense, but I will post about that later…in the meantime, running scenes from Christmas Eve day – lucked out again with the cloudy, but non-rainy, skies!
Running for Bacon: Training Day 7
I moved my training around this week a bit, I would say due to Christmas Day being on Friday, but it was more due to the pouring rain on Monday that made me not want to go out into it for a run. Then it was nice on Tuesday, and ended up being nice today. So all that to say I am all on track for this week’s training.
Tuesday was a short run, but some longer intervals. 1.5 minutes run and 1/5 minutes walk alternating with 2.5 minutes run and 2.5 minutes walking twice through.
I have to say, I think I got some of the most beautiful shots of the sun over the water during my walking breaks on Tuesday.
Here’s the start…
And off I go!
Views like this make me glad for walking breaks (well, I am glad in general for walking breaks, but they are a good excuse for taking pictures too!)
I’ll post today’s run in a couple of days – I am suspecting I may not have time for much posting tomorrow!
Running for Bacon: Training Day 6
So, last Friday was the 6th day of Running for More Bacon training (the second week of the Couch 2 5K). And once more, I lucked out with the weather. This week will be more challenging, both with the weather (it’s pouring right now, and windy) AND with Christmas on Friday. I think it’s going to be a Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday running week…
Anyway, I did get out on Friday, and while it was chilly, I layered up so it felt pretty good. The run was 1.5 min running, 2 min walking for 6 intervals. With, of course, a warm-up (during which I mailed my very late Christmas cards…every year it’s the same. Cards are ready to do early, and then don’t get done and sent until late…sigh…) and cool-down.
Here is some of the scenery from that chilly run.
Running for Bacon: Training Day 5
Wednesday was training day 5 (still on that Couch 2 5K). I ran the same intervals as on Monday, but didn’t go as far because it was chilly out there! And I had not layered up for the run, so I just went out, did my intervals, took a few pictures and went back. I have to say that I was very proud of myself for getting out there though. I had been waffling about it (you know the waffling: I’ll do it tomorrow, or later, or whatever), but I went and I was happy I went (of course – that’s also the way it goes. Hard to get going, but always happy that you did!)
And now, in no particular order, here are some sights from Running For Bacon Day 5!
Running for Bacon: Training Day 4
And now for Day 4, the beginning of week 2 of training (still on Couch to 5K). Today was 1.5 min running/2min walking for 4 intervals, and 1min/1min for 2 intervals. Yes, it’s slow going, but with the warm up and cool down I got another 3.5 K under my belt (I’m slow too, so sue me!)
And it was another lucky, sunny (if a little brisk – well, brisk for Victoria) day for a run! Hope tomorrow is nice too…
Here are some scenes along the way.
Ducks (lots and lots of ducks)
And a bald eagle at the top of the really high totem pole (sorry – only an iPhone. No telephoto lens…)
People here love hanging ornaments on their outdoor trees!
Magnolias!
Running for Bacon: Training Day 3
Late again with my training post! From last Friday, here is my report on the Great Training for the Marathon Adventure, training day 3. (Day 4 has just been completed a few minutes ago, but more on that tomorrow!)
I have to say, I’ve been lucking out with weather on my running days so far. And also, since I’m working at home right now, I don’t have to wait until darkness to run which makes it much easier, both for running and taking pictures. It was only a 4K jaunt (run 1 min, walk 1.5 min for 30 min + warm up and cool down), but it felt good, especially to get my first week of training done.
Here is some scenery from the final leg of the run.
The path up to the main road.
Looking back
On the way home – some Christmas spirit.
Running for More Bacon: Training Day 2
I was going to post this yesterday, but got caught up with things like work. Ah well. So, a day late, here is my report on the Great Training for the Marathon Adventure, training day 2, which was Wednesday. (I have also now finished day 3, but I’ll talk about that tomorrow. Don’t want to do too much in one day!)
Not much to report on. I ran one more interval on day 2 (7 intervals alternating 1 minute of running, and 1.5 minutes of running with a 5 minute warm-up and a 5 minute cool-down), so a few more minutes and a little farther.
I started by heading to the water.
Then up the path to the park at just past the halfway mark.
And here I am going through the park…
A peacock.
Another peacock…
And an ostentation of peacocks (you like that one???)
Then back up Simcoe towards home with some flowers and artsy shots.
