Hmmm…maybe I’ll DO the Daily Prompt today…
Nah.
As promised a couple of days ago, here are some flowers from our garden.
Fancy Daffodils
A series of the same kind of plants, but I can’t remember what they are
Perennial geraniums
The last of the tulips
Cherries ‘a ripening
Climbing hydrangea getting ready to bloom
And the delphinium also getting ready to bloom
No autographs please…

I don’t understand the concept of “selfies”, never have, never will. I do not post pictures of myself anywhere. My cats, my yard, assorted other things of interest to me, but not of myself. My avatars are all cat pictures. Why on earth would I want to take pictures of myself and post them for all to see? Don’t get it. Except when I have new hair.
So, without further ado…(drum roll please…)The New Do!!
Nope, that’s not it…
Nope…still not there yet….can I have another drum roll???
Ta Da!! And now, selfies are done for another 3 months. Whew!
Kaablowie!

So, yesterday evening, as I was relaxing from a busy day (yes, meaning watching TV ok??), the phone rings and it’s Kevin calling from work. Apparently, they were all working away when suddenly they heard what sounded like a gunshot (alternatively described by Kevin as kaapow!, kaablowie, or kaablam – and he did describe it to me many times last night). He went into the spare office (soon to be a second exam room) and found that his bike tire had exploded. Just sitting there, minding its own business, and kaablam!
At least he wasn’t on the bike riding at his usual break-neck speed when it went kaablowie! (I much prefer kaablowie to kaablam, although it’s true that I wasn’t there to hear it…)
To calm your nerves now, here are some pictures to complement yesterday’s series of the back yard from the deck: the back yard from the back yard. Tomorrow, I’ll show you some of the blooms going wild down there!
Time flies!

The kitty of one of our friend’s died the other day, and so in respect I am not going to post cute kitty pictures in my blog for the next couple of days. RIP Nikki.
Instead, for today, I decided to look back in the old archives to see what pictures I took one year ago, in May 2014. And I found some I wanted to share. Of the back garden and raised beds.
So, these were the new raised beds last year – the first two new ones (we added another 2 this spring).
And now, full of soil.
And here they are this year so far – we already have lettuce in the fridge for our eating pleasure!
And last May we were also adding new soil to the newly dug up back yard gardens (which will change again after the house is painted, meaning all that “grass” (meaning a bit of grass, but mostly weeds) will be gone, and stepping stones and wooly thyme added in.) Anyway, this is what the back gardens looked like last year (and note also these pictures were taken from the deck before the railing…)
And now?
I’ll definitely have to post updates again because, as tends to happen in gardens, things have grown!
Learning to like salad

Today, a short story of greens from our garden.
Of a tall kale plant still growing from last winter now cut back to a more manageable size, to a really spicy green (and I mean REALLY spicy) that I don’t remember the name of growing on our deck, to another green, a little more kale-like, growing in the raised beds.
The kale went into the leftover curry stew, while the rest waits patiently in the fridge for eating over the rest of the week.
Here’s about a third of what I harvested yesterday. Yum! Maybe I’ll finally get the hang of this eating salad thing.
Press pause

So, I don’t have much of a story to tell today. Yesterday was busy at work, and the rest of the week is busier – workshop insanity! As I sit here writing this, all I really want to do is go back to sleep. But since that’s not going to happen, I’ll just keep sipping my coffee and writing aimlessly.
I’m working on a plan for blogging, just in case you were wondering. It’s almost a month past the A to Z Challenge, and about time to get back to more than avoidance posts. You’ll see my plan this weekend as we head into June – can you believe it? June?!?!? Maybe it will rain then…
So, for your viewing pleasure today, flowers from our deck. Oh, and a chair from which to look at them all (re-stained by Kevin.)
Fushia in hanging pots
Marigolds accompanying tomato plants
Flowering chicks and hens (the hummingbirds like this one too)
Tomatillos and tomatoes blooming
Assorted hanging pot flowers – ok, so I was having fun with some iPhone Camera+app filters…so sue me!
Roses gone wild
Lavendar
Thyme
Monday…sigh…

Well, here we are at Monday. And a busy week it’s going to be too. There will be no time to stop and admire the pretty flowers today, so I thought a pause here might be nice. Guess I’m feeling kind of less sardonic this morning than usual. Hope I’m not coming down with something… Oh, and by the way, if people keep walking into the bar, it might be time to move the bar (sorry – couldn’t help myself).
Some of the flowers in the porch hanging baskets:
Blooming trees on our street
And finally, a bit of “snow”fall from the tree in front of our house. I don’t know what it’s called, but a neighbour walking her dog yesterday said she used to call it a popcorn tree when she was a girl – said it brought back happy memories of the same kind of tree in her yard when she was younger. That was kind of nice!
Can we have another long weekend?

So, today is Sunday but, unlike our American neighbours, we do not have a long weekend this weekend. We had that last weekend. It would be nice if we had another one, but alas, it’s back to work tomorrow for a 5-day work week…
But, before Monday arrives, I must do laundry and a bit ‘o gardening, and maybe run the vacuum around the house for a few minutes. An exciting day awaits, but only AFTER a second cup of coffee.
(Oh, just as an aside, Demolition Man works well for me…)
And now, here’s a Jasper series.
Zoned out
A response in avoidance of the Daily Post’s Writing Prompt https://dailypost.wordpress.com/dp_prompt/the-zone/
After work yesterday I decided to stop at the garden centre. Hey, it was Friday, and it had been a busy and tiring week (ironic, since it had also been a short week…) Anyway, I wanted peppers. I had seen these beautiful pepper plants when Kevin and I had been there last week, and I wanted them. And a butterfly house (which I did get, but which I haven’t set up yet, so no pics yet).
Of course, I didn’t just get peppers. I also picked up a few plants to fill some “holes” in the back yard, and picked up a couple of other fun things for our deck.
First, some lavender
Then an eggplant plant. It will be interesting to see how these turn out!
And finally, an assortment of sweet and hot peppers to go with the assortment of tomatoes already blooming, salad greens, and herbs already sitting out there on the deck. I’m getting hungry already!
