Flower of the Day: April 30, 2023

Cee’s Flower of the Day.

I don’t know what directions my flower pics will take this year.  For now, I will just play it by ear and see where my fancy flies!

Blogging from A to Z Challenge: Y is for… (#AtoZChallenge)

Welcome to my April 2023 Great and Powerful Blogging from A to Z Challenge!

I’ve revealed my theme (My life in first drafts), but this year, instead of pretending there were ever plans, I am unashamedly blogging my theme letters on the fly.  So, here goes nothing!

So, without further ado, Y is for Youth Choir, National.

Do you ever remember doing something with a vagueness that creates flashes of memories in your mind that make you wonder, is that the memory of that event or something similar I have since forgotten?

That is my memory of the National Youth Choir of Canada.

Did I do this once? Twice? Was it in Regina or some other city? I remember rehearsing in a private high school in Regina and hanging out in the cafeteria there, but I also remember piling into a car too small for four (me and three others) and driving around a city that was not Regina. And all these I associate in my mind with singing in a choir.

There is a picture somewhere of me in the National Youth Choir (I don’t think I was much of a youth, remembering that I was probably in university at the time), and I don’t recognize the church as being in Regina. So probably I am conflating two choir-related events.

Maybe in the end it would have been better for me to find a different Y…sigh.

Guess I’m kind of a rebel too…although I do like using the “official” letters…

Blogging from A to Z Challenge: X is for… (#AtoZChallenge)

Welcome to my April 2023 Great and Powerful Blogging from A to Z Challenge!

I’ve revealed my theme (My life in first drafts), but this year, instead of pretending there were ever plans, I am unashamedly blogging my theme letters on the fly.  So, here goes nothing!

So, without further ado, X is for X.

I can finally just do the letter, X.  No trying to figure out what word beginning with X is going to work for this challenge.  Of course, this should have been posted yesterday, but I think I can still squeeze it in…

Blogging from A to Z Challenge: W is for… (#AtoZChallenge)

Welcome to my April 2023 Great and Powerful Blogging from A to Z Challenge!

I’ve revealed my theme (My life in first drafts), but this year, instead of pretending there were ever plans, I am unashamedly blogging my theme letters on the fly.  So, here goes nothing!

So, without further ado, W is for Writing.

I have been a writer of sorts for many years. And I’ve had one of those on and off again relationships with writing where I get addicted to writing for awhile, then can’t seem to make the time for it (I am the ultimate procrastinator) and then can’t stop.

As a kid I wrote poetry…as many kids do. I even won a prize once for a poem in grade 8 I think it was. Or nine? I don’t remember. Anyway, I wrote poetry even into university age and had a poem set to music by a composer friend of mine.

Most of my writing in university was for papers, go figure. Although I did collaborate with my father once on a children’s opera – I wrote the libretto and he wrote the music. It’s even been performed!

Fast forward to recent times when I began writing more for work. I have written tutorials (technical document) for students and faculty on how to use the tools we support for years, but more recently I began writing other things. When COVID forced everyone to teach online, I began interviewing faculty and sharing their stories of how they moved their teaching online. And to feel better about what I was doing, I began to take creative writing classes online from the University of Toronto. I had taken the odd online writing course from various writing organizations over the years, but this time I decided to work towards a certificate.

Anyway, I have written 60 or 70 stories for work, and have more ideas for writing projects. I am working on more memoir like pieces and my next writing class is specifically on the memoir. I am looking forward to it. And the next course I take will move me back to my roots as a poet.

My goal has always been to write more on this blog, so stay tuned for me to continue the kinds of stories I’ve been sharing this past month on a more regular basis year-round.
