September 19-Somethin’ Challenge – September 12-19

This is Suzanne’s challenge at https://mcclendonvilla.wordpress.com/september-19-somethin-challenge/ , and according to her “This challenge is prompted by the song 19-Somethin’ by Mark Wills. You can hear the song here: https://youtu.be/UhSCeItgUEc   The following questions are taken from the various lines in the song.  There are also a few random questions thrown into the mix to make it a post a day for the month – 30 posts.”

Well, I’m catching up on a week’s worth of posts here ’cause it’s been crazy at work and all I can do when I get home is exercise, make supper, and crash with the kitties.  Crazy I tell you!!  So, now I can catch up.

September 12:  When did you first have a microwave in your home? Were you afraid that it would make you sick or did you embrace this “new” technology?

We had a big microwave early on.  Mom and dad often got the new tech when it came out. I just remember it was big, and nothing got browned when cooked in it.  I don’t remember worrying about getting radiation poisoning….

September 13:  Did any of the men in your family have big sideburns? What did you think of it then? What do you think of it now, looking back?

Yes.  My father.  I have a picture somewhere, but I won’t post it ’cause he might not like it…and mom reads my blog.  🙂

September 14:  Did you get into any of the toy/game crazes, such as the Rubic’s Cube, Polly Pockets, or Cabbage Patch dolls or anything like that?

Not really, well…I don’t really remember.  I had a Rubik’s cube, but I never solved it.  Should have cheated.

September 15:  Did you get into MTV? If not, what was your favorite music-based TV program?

A bit.  For some reason, the one I remember was:

September 16:  Who was your favorite TV character? What did you like about them? Who did you like the least?

Hmmm…not sure.  I liked the guys in Emergency, and Starsky and Hutch (yeah, I know…)  The least?  The blond Carrington wife – what was her name?  Too goody two-shoes for me.  Give me Alexis!

September 17:  Do you remember where you were and/or what you were doing when the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded? This happened on 28 January 1986.  Were there any big events going on in your personal life at the time?

Yes.  I came home from university and it was on the news.  I just remember being shocked but realizing that this space exploration thing is a dangerous business.

September 18:  Did you like to roller skate? Did you go to a skating rink or did you skate on the sidewalk/street at home? If you went to the skating rink, did you spend more time skating or socializing?

I went a few times in the 70s.  I was better at it than I was at ice-skating.  I could only ice skate if I had boards to crash into to stop.  Skating on the Ottawa Rideau Canal was hard, since the only way I could stop was to fall on my butt.

September 19:  What was your favorite kind of car when you were young? Did you ever get to have one of your own?

I don’t know.  I’ve always been a bit of a 4×4 girl, and had a Pathfinder for many years.  I am not a fan of sports cars ’cause they feel a bit like death traps. Someday I’ll have another SUV…

September 19-Somethin’ Challenge – September 11

This is Suzanne’s challenge at https://mcclendonvilla.wordpress.com/september-19-somethin-challenge/ , and according to her “This challenge is prompted by the song 19-Somethin’ by Mark Wills. You can hear the song here: https://youtu.be/UhSCeItgUEc   The following questions are taken from the various lines in the song.  There are also a few random questions thrown into the mix to make it a post a day for the month – 30 posts.”

The September 11th question is: What was your favorite music genre when you were young and on what format did you first listen to it?

Well, now that’s an interesting question.  My parents pretty much only listened to classical music, given that they were both trained classical musicians.  So, growing up, while I did have some disco albums (sorry Kevin), most of what I listened to was classical.  Until late high school when I started listening to country music (hey, I’m from Saskatchewan).  Now I’m catching up on my 60s and 70s (and select 80s) rock, punk rock, etc.  I am not much for contemporary “rock”, but I do like the classics!

Here’s a “current” favourite!

September 19-Somethin’ Challenge – September 10

This is Suzanne’s challenge at https://mcclendonvilla.wordpress.com/september-19-somethin-challenge/ , and according to her “This challenge is prompted by the song 19-Somethin’ by Mark Wills. The September 10th question is:  What fashion did you like most, and least from your younger years?

Looking back, I would have to say I didn’t like any of the fashions from my youth.  I don’t remember anything looking good on me and I never was able to figure out how to dress “in style”.  Probably says more about my body image than my fashion sense…sigh…  Well, that was a depressing trip back in time…

Let’s look at a kitty picture to cheer up again.

September 19-Somethin’ Challenge – September 9

This is Suzanne’s challenge at https://mcclendonvilla.wordpress.com/september-19-somethin-challenge/ , and according to her “This challenge is prompted by the song 19-Somethin’ by Mark Wills. The September 9th question is: What was your favorite celebrity hairstyle when you were a teenager? Did you imitate their hairstyle?

Do I have to say Farrah?  Oh, probably…although I liked Kate Jackson better…  And no I did not.  I could never understand how anyone could get their hair to look like that, especially for more than 2 minutes.  I ended up learning to love short and colourful!

September 19-Somethin’ Challenge – September 8

This is Suzanne’s challenge at https://mcclendonvilla.wordpress.com/september-19-somethin-challenge/ , and according to her “This challenge is prompted by the song 19-Somethin’ by Mark Wills. The September 8th question is: What celebrity death upset you the most when you were young?

I wracked my brains all day yesterday (in between meetings and consults and workshops and kickboxing class) and couldn’t really think of anyone who upset me when I was young.  When I was older (but younger than I am now), I remember clearly being very saddened when Stevie Ray Vaughan died.  Now there was a loss to the musical world!

The September 5th question is:  Today is Labor Day in the United States. How old were you when you got your first job? What was that job? Did you enjoy it?

It’s Labour Day here in Canada – how is it different from the US holiday?  Note the “u”…

As for my first job, I don’t really remember which was first.  I vaguely remember a short-lived retail job at a clothing store, but I think that came after working as an accompanist for students at the Conservatory (something I did for many years).  I also baby-sat, but I was only in it for the cable 🙂

The September 4th question is: Did you have a sports hero? Who was he or she and what was their sport?

Nope.  Never was much for sports (you know, one of those kids last chosen for teams, and thrown on the baseball field by “well-meaning” teachers who somehow assumed every kid knew how to play baseball, and so never bothered to actually teach us how to play…)

But I did have a musical hero in Shostakovich!  Have you ever heard his 10th Symphony??

September 19-Somethin’ Challenge – September 3

The September 3rd question is:  Did you ever take something apart just to see how it worked or what was inside it? What was it? What did you find in there?

I can’t tell you what I found in here…she told me not to.

The September 2nd question is: What is the first video game that you remember playing? Were you good at it? What game system did you play it on or was it in an arcade?

Yes, it was Pong, ok??  The original.  Pong.  Who was ever good at Pong?
