Ah, Sunday
A response in avoidance of the Daily Post’s Writing Prompt https://dailypost.wordpress.com/prompts/deprive/
Yes indeed. Sunday. A day of general laziness, at least for me it was. In fact, the only things I actually did were to go out for dinner with mom, dad and Kevin, and to get groceries. Oh, and watch GoT – way to go out with a bang, season 6!!
Anyway, I guess I should add that I also took some pictures. Of dinner, of course. We dined at one of mom and dad’s favourite restaurtants, The Rathskeller (German home cooking, well at least from a Canuck perspective).
The Rathskeller is probably closing soon. The restaurant is up for sale, and they have found no one wanting to take it on so far. So, it will likely sell and get torn down for a new condo complex. Just the way some things go here.
If anyone were to take over, they would inherit a restaurant full of weird knick-knacks, for example:
As well as picture-rails full of steins and beer bottles. Dad has expressed an interest in purchasing the cross-bow (see above). Yes….I know.
Anyway, last night’s dinner was hearty and delicious as always.
Maybe we will get back there again before they close. Only time will tell. In the meantime…
Cee’s Odd Ball Challenge 2016 Week 26
For this week’s Cee’s Odd Ball Challenge, 2016 Week 26 (https://ceenphotography.com/2016/06/26/cees-odd-ball-photo-challenge-2016-week-26/)
Here are a few oddballs from outings with my Aunt this last week:
What the H#$% is this?? We still have no idea…
Butchart Gardens loves to put plants everywhere!
Not open for business.
A Dining Room at the Leg? Who knew?
You mean, you can’t wait ON the green bench?
A Saturday Snapshot (well, a few snapshots…)

My Aunt went back to Texas yesterday. Mom, Dad, Kevin and I piled into the car to take her to the airport in the morning. It was sad to see her go, but we are making a list of all the things we want to take her to see next time she’s in town!
After the airport, we stopped at Mt. Doug (well, Kevin was driving, so mom and dad were a captive audience for him wanting them to see the top of the hill). It is a cool location – one you would never believe would be in the middle of the city!
After we dropped mom and dad off, we washed the car before going home for lunch. I keep meaning to take a picture of this school next to the car wash. I just think the windows are cool.
After lunch, we renewed our car license. I waited in the car (just because) and took a picture of this cool baby.
Later, at home…
And still later, we went to Joe Jackson at the Royal. He was headlining for the Jazz Festival. Not sure why. He has one album which could be said to be “jazz”, but it was pretty much a rock show. People around us either loved it or hated it (the folks next to me didn’t clap once, and were out of there like a shot at the end). Victoria Jazz Festival, get your act together! It’s a JAZZ festival – surely there are more than enough JAZZ groups that you don’t need to program ex-punk rockers (as good as he is…)?!?!?
Then, finally, a late BBQ dinner. And that was our Saturday!
A last outing with my Aunt before she leaves
A response in avoidance of the Daily Post’s Writing Prompt https://dailypost.wordpress.com/prompts/prophecy/
So, yesterday was my Aunt’s last day in Victoria. She is leaving this morning to head back to the furnace that is Texas. It was great having her and reconnecting. I hope she comes to visit again soon!!
Mom thought we should take my Aunt to a high tea, as it’s kind of a Victoria thing to do. As we had never been to Point Ellice House (https://pointellicehouse.com/), we decided to go there (plus it’s WAY less expensive than the Empress, which is highway robbery tea!)
Point Ellice House is in a weird area of Victoria – for a historical landmark. While it’s an 1860s house close to downtown, and right on the water (the house and remaining grounds are owned by the Province), on one side is a large gravel mart, and on the other side is an auto-wrecking yard. You’d never know it was there if you didn’t already know it.
This is some of what you see once you pull into the grounds:
With tea came a free tour of the house and grounds. You can see more of the house (better pictures – it was DARK in there!) at the website (https://pointellicehouse.com/tour-the-oreilly-home/virtual-tour/), but here are a few things we saw inside:
And while we started the experience with tea, I will end the post with some photos of the tea-experience at Point Ellice House:
Weekly Photo Challenge: Partners
“Whether two of a kind or ten, give us subjects that are in sync with one another — show us partnerships.”(https://dailypost.wordpress.com/photo-challenges/partners/)
Come on, you know what’s coming…
Sightseeing and Supper
A response in avoidance of the Daily Post’s Writing Prompt https://dailypost.wordpress.com/prompts/voyage/
So, yesterday I took my Aunt out for a drive and stopped at several of the good places in town for the taking of pictures. Cattle Point, Beach Road/Dallas Road stops (including the Chinese Cemetery again), Clover Point, Ogden Point, Fisherman’s Wharf, Beacon Hill Park, Mt. Tolmie…you know… We had a nice time visiting, taking pictures, and eating lunch at Fisherman’s Wharf (and having ice-cream). It was nice to re-connect with her after 35 years!
Unfortunately I forgot my DSLR (my Aunt is a photographer and could have given me my own personal lesson!) But I did take the little P&S and took a few pics of my own along the way.
Then, last evening, mom, dad, Aunt, Kevin and I had a nice dinner out.
Complete with scenary
Appetizers
Yum!
Delicious main courses
And some dessert (I stuck with latte – SO full!!)
and later, Kevin and I went home for some kitty time.
Another nice day!!
Macro Moments Challenge: Week 1
And another new challenge, this one from Musin’ with Susan (https://musinwithsusan.com). It’s Macro Moments Challenge: Week 1 (https://musinwithsusan.com/2016/06/22/macro-moments-week-1/). Briefly, here’s how the challenge works:
- Choose a favorite macro photo from the past week or from your archives.
- Add the photo to your post and a brief description. I would love to know, as I am sure others would, too, what camera and lens you used and your settings.
Okey dokey! I’m pretty proud of this one.
Taken with my Canon Powershot SX700HS, f/5, Exposure time 1/15, ISO-100, taken at night on our deck last week with the built-in flash, and to finish it off, a little cropping in PS Elements.
Cee’s Black and White Photo Challenge: Flowers

Black and white flowers – interesting challenge! Here goes nothing…
A Photo a Week Challenge: Clocks

Now I know why I have been taking pictures of clocks on my latest excursions!
And now for something completely different…
