A little BBQ, a little spider, and a relaxing evening in front of the fire

Last night for supper we BBQ sablefish, and had rice and kale sauteed in butter and garlic (yum).
mmmm….grilled sablefish….
I sat on the deck with Kevin to keep him company (and drink wine) and watched for spiders…
We then retired to the living-room (well, we ate there too. It’s what we do) and I read a book on my iPad Kindle app, while Kevin watched the Game (Riders, man) and some other TV stuff (I think it was Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters or something) with the fireplace going and kitties (eventually) sleeping. A nice, relaxing Saturday evening!
And a good Saturday to you too!

I’m tired. We had a fabulous evening out last night at Judy and Gord’s where we dined on home-made pate and lamb. Much wine was consumed amid great conversation and merriment. We all stayed up past our bedtimes. Now I’m tired. But I’m here to present to you kitties of Friday.
I do believe it’s fall.

Yesterday it really felt like fall. I mean, it’s been starting to feel more and more like fall over the past couple of weeks, since the rain returned and the car windshields have needed sponging off in the morning. But for some reason, even though it was warm in the afternoon, yesterday it felt like fall.
BTW, fall feels different here than it did back in Saskatchewan. For one thing, in Saskatchewan, you never knew if a September day would be +30 or below zero (we’re talking Celsius here, just so you know). I mean, here, in September we wear a jacket and take it off if we need to (usually we don’t), but there? Just when you thought you could put those summer clothes away, it would be too hot to wear the fall clothes. And then one day, usually in October, but sometimes earlier, BAM! Winter (just like in May it’s suddenly summer. Spring? Doesn’t exist in Saskatchewan…).
Here, even though I was in denial earlier this week, I now know that it’s time to put away the capris and short-sleeved jackets and time to pull out the jeans and long-sleeved jackets (not much of a uniform shift, I know, but it’s what I wear!) I, however, am refusing to wear socks and boots until October. So there. Don’t get me wrong though. I love fall. It’s my favourite time of year. Fall…and Christmas. And since fall and winter, to me anyway, aren’t much different here (“winter” is rainier), fall and Christmas are kind of in the same season. And I also know that once I switch out the old wardrobe (such as it is) from summer to fall, I’m good until May!
That’s enough words for today I think. I know why you’re really here…
We have visitors!

We have guests at the old Edwardian Inn (in case you didn’t know, our house used to be a B&B – I’ve probably told you this story before, but I’ll dig it out again for the exterior house painting retrospective)! Our old friends Jeremy and Beth (well, “old” meaning we’ve known them for a long time. They’re not old – at least not as old as us…) from Regina are staying with us for a few days while they attend the Breakout West (http://breakoutwest.ca/) conference and perform with Belle Plaine (http://www.belleplainemusic.com/) at the conference, and as part of Rifflandia (http://rifflandia.com/) here in Victoria. Plug here – Belle Plaine is great – check out some of her songs at her website.
Anyway, we actually won’t see much of Jeremy and Beth while they’re here, since they are here for a conference and for gigs and Kevin and I are both working today and tomorrow (sigh…). But we’re hoping to hang a bit on the weekend and catch up before they head out for the final leg of their Western Canada tour. Jeremy is the one whose wedding Kevin and I traveled to last summer (the travels of which I began to blog, and then stopped – I should really finish that set of posts. Late or not, I have some great pictures from that particular Vacation.)
So, that’s the news here. Aside from the fact that it’s beginning to feel a lot like fall now. Which will mean more rain, chillier mornings, and knowing that in a month (or maybe 2) I can start listening to Christmas music. Yes I can.
And now, this…
Oh, blah.

Single Mom Blog (http://www.creativeblogmom.com/mingle-monday/mingle-monday-and-cats/) mentioned my kitties yesterday, so I wanted to send a big thanks her way!
And now, here’s the little guy who is the hardest to get pictures of, mainly because he keeps running away. Don’t let him fool you though – he does love getting scratched!

Sometimes I’m surprised Elliot doesn’t fall off more often…
And now it’s Jasper’s turn

Elliot: an evening in pictures

An evening of Elliot. Or, at least part of an evening. There are only so many pictures of sleeping Elliot one can take…
