March Writing Prompts, Day 26 – Peculiar happenings

From Putting My Feet in the Dirt, March’s Writing prompts.

Today, “Peculiar happenings”.

The number of peculiar happenings in the world right now is pretty endless.  Line ups at empty grocery stores, empty shelves in the stores when you finally get inside, silent downtown streets.  And most peculiar of all this week for me was the parking lot at work on a weekday two weeks or so before the end of the term (I work at a college).  One of those things I wish for every morning when I get to work – a good parking spot, and now I wish I hadn’t found one…

March Writing Prompts, Day 22 – Something lost, something given

From Putting My Feet in the Dirt, March’s Writing prompts.

Today, “Something lost, something given”.

This reminds me of something I’ve been thinking a lot about lately.

Over the past few years, I have heard and read a lot of complaints about social media and how much time we spend online, when we should be more social, hanging out with friends, etc.  Now in this time of self isolation and social distancing, where would we be now without all our online technology and social media?  We have indeed lost something, but what we have lost due to social distancing, we have found again through what we used to complain was causing social distance.

March Writing Prompts, Day 18 – Disappointing disasters

From Putting My Feet in the Dirt, March’s Writing prompts.

Today, “Disappointing disasters”.

I don’t know.  In terms of disasters, would we call this one “disappointing”?  I mean, people are sick and some are dying, businesses are closing and the economy is in the toilet, there are no eggs or chicken (or toilet paper) in the grocery stores.  But (so far) there have been no riots in the streets, I can still buy coffee and bacon (and wine), and there are no zombies…

March Writing Prompts, Day 16 – A tale of turbulence

From Putting My Feet in the Dirt, March’s Writing prompts.

Today, “A tale of turbulence”.

A tale of turbulence will be my day at work today.  For those of you who don’t know, I work for a college in Victoria, BC, and at 8:00pm Saturday night, we received notice that as of Monday, all classes would be moving from face to face delivery to alternative delivery methods to help prevent the spread of the coronovirus.  Oh, did I mention I work in eLearning?  This is my tale or turbulence.  Kind of explains why I had a work dream last night that involved an earthquake.

The thing about turbulence is that you often know it’s coming, but can’t always tell how bad it is going to be until you are in the middle of it.  And that’s where we are at work right now.  The calm before the bumps.  How bumpy will it get?  Will our plane take huge dives, plunging dramatically as we scream in terror?  Who knows!

What I can say is that this is one plane ride I think I will enjoy (strangely enough), just like Kevin enjoys a real turbulent plane ride, plunges and all.  Hold on to your hats folks!
