Just Jot it January, 2019: January 27

“Your prompt for JusJoJan 2019, January 27th is brought to you by Enthralling Journey! Click here to find her last post and say hi while you’re there! Enthralling Journey’s word for our prompt today is “cathartic.” Use it anywhere in your post or make it the theme of your post. Have fun!” (https://lindaghill.com/2019/01/27/jusjojan-2019-daily-prompt-jan-27th/)

What do I find cathartic?  Taking pictures of things, writing on my blog, kickboxing (yes – it is REALLY cathartic!), and, of course, fire and  kittens!  Some of the best catharsis at the end of a long day at work…

“Your prompt for #JusJoJan and Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “ad/add/AD (Anno Domini).” Use one, use ’em all–bonus points if you fit them all into your post. Have fun!” (https://lindaghill.com/2019/01/25/the-friday-reminder-for-socs-jusjojan-2019-daily-prompt-jan-26th/)

In AD 2019, they will continue to add to the list of indicted people, ad nauseum (we can only hope).  Do I win?

“Your prompt for JusJoJan 2019, January 25th is brought to you by JP! Click here to find her last post (honestly, I’m assuming JP’s a her–sorry, JP, if I’m wrong) and say hi while you’re there! JP’s word for our prompt today is “balance.” Use it anywhere in your post or make it the theme of your post. Have fun!” (https://lindaghill.com/2019/01/25/jusjojan-2019-daily-prompt-jan-25th/)

Balance is very important in life.

Physically, you can balance on one foot (it’s a lot harder when you’re standing on a bosu!), perhaps on one hand, or on your head.  If you take yoga, you learn a lot about balancing in many different ways.  Vertigo makes it very hard to find your balance.  I can’t look over a balcony without feeling like I’m going to lose my balance.

Mentally, you can have a balanced work-life situation, or balanced and controlled feelings.

You can balance your budget, balance the scales of justice, find a balance between two opposing points of view (this is sometimes called a compromise, the meaning of which a certain tangerine POTUS doesn’t seem to understand).

You, hopefully, have a bank balance, or hopefully don’t have a balance owing on your Visa.

In music, you need to have the right balance of the orchestra to the soloist, assuming you want to hear the poor flute player.

A balance is a kind of scale, or the regulating thingy in a watch or clock.

And on this blog, I need to provide you with a good balance of kitten photos to counteract all the writing I have done about balance…

Bee’s word for our prompt today is “zoomie.” Interpret it any way you’d like, and use it anywhere in your post or make it the theme of your post. Have fun!!” (https://lindaghill.com/2019/01/24/jusjojan-2019-daily-prompt-jan-24th/)

Like many of you out there I am sure, I had to look this up.  There was the Air Force Academy graduate definition – yeah, I don’t have a picture of that.  Then there was the zoomie dog definition, of a dog running all over the place.  Ok – I can work with that.  But only by showing how kittens feel about zoomie dogs.

“Your prompt for JusJoJan 2019, January 22nd is One Liner Wednesday…Have fun!” (https://lindaghill.com/2019/01/23/jusjojan-2019-daily-prompt-jan-23rd-and-one-liner-wednesday/)

Yes, I’ve given up on the 500 word a day challenge.  Well, I am writing 500 words a day, just not all in one post…and not just in blogging.  So, let’s do a one-liner to inspire you in the morning…

“Your prompt for JusJoJan 2019, January 22nd is brought to you by Pamela! Click here to find her last post and say hi while you’re there! Pamela’s word for our prompt today is “curiosity.” Use it anywhere in your post or make it the theme of your post. Have fun!” (https://lindaghill.com/2019/01/22/jusjojan-2019-daily-prompt-jan-22nd/)  These Jots are not only my 500-words a day challenge, but also part of my  Ultimate Blogging Challenge challenge (http://ultimateblogchallenge.com)

I think I am a curious person.  Not snoopy, I hope (usually), but curious about trying new things (except slimy food).  I do, however, get tired of people telling me to be “curious” when referring to dealing with people and conflict when it feels more like a cop-out – you know, we don’t want to deal with the conflict, and want you to suck it up, so we are going to tell you to be curious about the situation instead.  I don’t need curiousity to know that some people are just a$$holes.

Yesterday I was curious to see if I could take a picture of flying birds, and I think I did ok (next time, a faster shutter speed…)

“Your prompt for JusJoJan 2019, January 21st is brought to you by Lady Lee! Click here to find her last Just Jot it January post and say hi while you’re there! Lady Lee’s word for our prompt today is “echo.” Use it anywhere in your post or make it the theme of your post. Have fun!” (https://lindaghill.com/2019/01/21/jusjojan-2019-daily-prompt-jan-21st/)  These Jots are not only my 500-words a day challenge, but also part of my  Ultimate Blogging Challenge challenge (http://ultimateblogchallenge.com)

Why is it the first thing that came to mind was “Little sir echo how do you do?  Hello…hello…Hello…hello” and that’s all I remember.

I remember the story of Echo (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Echo_(mythology)) Echo and Narcissus –  you know…the dude who gave the name to the personality trait of the pumpkin-coloured “president”?   It’s a pretty sad story, but pretty standard Greek mythology where one god (usually Zeus) seducing some poor human or nymph, another god (usually Hera) getting mad at the poor victim and exacting some kind of horrible revenge (of course, Zeus gets off scott free again and again and again).  Typical.

And now for an image that has nothing to do with echo, although if I had the energy I could probably think of some way to relate it!

“Your prompt for JusJoJan 2019, January 20th is brought to you by Jill! Click here to find her last post and say hi while you’re there! Jill’s word for our prompt today is “serendipity.” Use it anywhere in your post or make it the theme of your post. Have fun!” (https://lindaghill.com/2019/01/20/jusjojan-2019-daily-prompt-jan-20th/)  These Jots are not only my 500-words a day challenge, but also part of my  Ultimate Blogging Challenge challenge (http://ultimateblogchallenge.com).

Serendipity.  Finding something good by accident.

I wonder what finding something not so good by accident is called?  You know – the word that describes when you’re walking down the street in a good mood and suddenly step in dog sh%&?  That word.

It was kind of serendipitous we found our house.  We were really interested in a house down the street, but it had an offer on it so we didn’t check it out.  But low and behold there was another house for sale on the street.  We checked it out, and the next thing we knew, here we were (well, not really – it took weeks of negotiating, and then four months of repairs before we moved in…)

Now, to be fair, we were actively looking for another house.  We liked the house we lived in at the time, but the neighbourhood was facing changes we weren’t too happy about.  So perhaps I should call it serendipity-ish.

“Your prompt for #JusJoJan and Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “television.” Talk about your favorite show, past, present, or future, or about the apparatus itself. Enjoy!” (https://lindaghill.com/2019/01/18/the-friday-reminder-for-socs-jusjojan-2019-daily-prompt-jan-19th/)  These Jots are not only my 500-words a day challenge, but also part of my  Ultimate Blogging Challenge challenge (http://ultimateblogchallenge.com).

Television.  What comes to mind when I think about television these days is how it’s changed.

The age of a few networks, and seasons starting in September and running until May, if you missed an episode having to wait until summer rerun season to pick them up – these things are pretty much over.  Streaming shows of the web, Netflix, even being able to rent or buy DVDs (do people still do this?) have changed the shape of TV.  We have fall starts, winter starts, summer seasons.

And binging.  Don’t forget binging.  Entire seasons of old and new shows available at the touch of a play button.  Well, not always – depends on what Netflix is offering at any given time (especially here in Canada…sigh…)

I can also play YouTube and other online services on our smart TV, and stream as needed from my iPad through AppleTV.

All of which begs the question: how is it that there is still nothing on TV?

“Your prompt for JusJoJan 2019, January 18th is brought to you by Di! Click here to find her last post and say hi while you’re there! Di’s word for our prompt today is “companionship.” Use it anywhere in your post or make it the theme of your post. Have fun!” (https://lindaghill.com/2019/01/18/jusjojan-2019-daily-prompt-jan-18th/)  These Jots are not only my 500-words a day challenge, but also part of my  Ultimate Blogging Challenge challenge (http://ultimateblogchallenge.com).

Companionship.  Meaning the enjoyment of being with others.  So, not just being in the company of others, but enjoying it too.

Sometimes I enjoy being around people.  Not always.  I don’t suppose that’s unusual, especially for someone who likes to spend time with computers and kittens.  I mean, I enjoy spending time with Kevin, and my parents, and the people I care about at work, and my friends.  But I also like to spend time by myself.  And with my computer, and my camera.  Can you have companionship with an inanimate object?  Now, don’t freak out – I am not venturing into subjects that would render my blog PG13 (where is your mind?!?)  I’m just talking about working on my blog, or learning how to use my camera better.

Now, to conclude, here are my lunch companions for a cold and windy Friday!
