Bloganuary 2024, Day 13: Think back on your most memorable road trip.

Something to get me going for January, Bloganuary.  Day 13: Think back on your most memorable road trip.

Without a doubt the most memorable road trip was the first one Kevin and I took, shortly after we got together. We drove to Idaho Falls to visit my aunt and uncle who were living there at the time. We thought, hey we can drive down through Colorado and through Yellowstone and see some cool stuff on our way there. All was going according to plan until we hit a wall of snow. Literally. At the gates to the park. Who know the park closed for the winter and didn’t open again until May?

What now? Well time to drive around the park to get back to a highway. To make a long story short for the purposes of blogging, we ended up in Cody Wyoming, drove across what looked like a military nuclear wasteland (hey, the map said it was a road – these were the days LONG before GPS and Google Maps), almost hit a heard of Elk on a bridge at midnight, ended up in a town buried in snow on the other side of Yellowstone where thankfully one hotel was still open for us to check in (no food though) before finally getting to Idaho Falls the next day.

My aunt said if we could survive that, we would be together awhile. That was almost 30 years ago, so I guess she was right.
