Kitten Thursday – The Jasper Edition

A response in avoidance of the Daily Post’s Writing Prompt https://dailypost.wordpress.com/prompts/pensive/

And welcome one and all once more to Kitten Thursday!  Today, it’s all about Jasper.  Why?  Because he was sleeping on the back of the couch behind me, and I didn’t have to move to take pictures.  Yes.  Because I am lazy.  And he is also photogenic, but you knew that already.

Hugh’s Weekly Photo Challenge. Week 26: Distance

Hugh’s Weekly Photo Challenge.  Week 26: Distance (https://hughsviewsandnews.com/2016/05/17/hughs-weekly-photo-challenge-week-26-distance/)

“For this week’s photo challenge take or choose a photo that shows an object that is in the distance. Maybe it’s a building or a wonderful view that contains an interesting object or scene that, although it is in the distance, shows up really well in the photo? Maybe you can spot where you are headed to from a plane or train and you’ve managed to capture it?”

Things in the distance always seem to look closer in real life than on camera…

He was not amused.

Share Your World – 2016 Week 20

Here I am getting some extra blogging done tonight.  Starting with this week’s Share Your World (https://ceenphotography.com/2016/05/16/share-your-world-2016-week-20/).

When do you feel most connected with others?

Connected…connected…what was the question again?  Sorry.  We talk a lot about “connecting” at work, but I think an honest conversation where people feel safe to state their thoughts and opinions and laugh a little is the best connection, but it doesn’t seem to happen for real very often.

What daily habit would you like to introduce to your life?

Running.  Again.

What one mini-little-adventure would you like to have in the coming week?

Interesting question.   I’m not very adventurous, so I would say just to start my new blog post series.  Getting that off the ground would be adventure enough for me!

List at least of things or events that changed your Life: It could be as simple as a book or meeting a certain person?

In no particular order:

  • Meeting Kevin
  • Moving to Victoria
  • Working in the Language Lab at the University of Regina and meeting Susan and Darca
  • Getting my first Instructional Design job at the University of Regina (thanks Myra!)
  • Finishing my Master’s Thesis (thanks Jan and Brent and Arok)
  • Judy:  the inspiration for Zombie Flamingos
  • My current colleagues at work – you know who you are, and you know why
  • Finishing a marathon

There are many more things/events/people who have changed me, and I thank you all.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I continue to be grateful to my work colleagues and Kevin and my friends supporting me these days.  I continue to look forward to things getting better, but in the immediate week I am looking forward to a long weekend…whoo hoo!!!

Another Tuesday, Another Walk

A response in avoidance of the Daily Post’s Writing Prompt https://dailypost.wordpress.com/prompts/flourish/

So, yesterday I went for a walk on my lunch hour.  I was glad I did because I was tuckered when I got home from work, so all I did was a little housework, watering the garden, and making dinner.  I was tuckered probably partly because I walked up Mt. Tolmie for my walk (I’ve posted about that walk before), but mostly because of other stuff which I won’t go into here.

Anyway, I thought I would share with you some of the things I saw on my mountain trek!

Flowers.  I thought these pink ones (peonies, perhaps?) were unusual.

May172016a

The last of the Camas.

May172016p

And I saw lots of reluctant-poser bees along the way.

May172016c

Here I am taking the trails up.

May172016q

May172016r

May172016t

Lots of the grass is brown.  It’s been very dry here, and doesn’t look like we will get rain again for a long time.

May172016j

Everything continues to be early – here are blackberries flowering.  This walk will be quite delicious in a month or two.

May172016l

A few views from the top.  It’s hard to see here, but I am looking towards home and there is a cruise ship in the distance.  The cruise ship tour bus (well, one of them) was driving up to the top of Mt. Tolmie just as I was heading down.  Tourists!

And finally, resting at home after another long day…

My Monday walk

A response in avoidance of the Daily Post’s Writing Prompt https://dailypost.wordpress.com/prompts/south/

I’m trying to get back on track with a lot of things – I really am.  I got a lot of gardening done on the weekend (and there is more to do, but there is ALWAYS more to do).  And yesterday I went for a walk after work.  Ok, not a run, but I did go for a hour and 17 minute walk (thanks Runtastic!)  And I did walk briskly, at least between short stops for taking pictures.

That’s right.  I went for a walk with my camera, and not just any camera, my DSLR of The Great Blogging A to Z Challenge (which is why I had to walk – can’t run with that baby)!  Turns out I need to work on my camera skills again.  Many of my pictures came out blurry or too bright.  Gotta review my posts!!

Anyway, here is some of the things I encountered on my walk – the pictures that kind of turned out ok anyway…

May162016c

The “Sorry” kind of gives it away that we’re in Canada, eh?

May162016d

Bees everywhere, and none of them helpfully staying still for a photo op

May162016g

The seagulls, however, enjoyed posing

May162016k

As did the bridge

May162016l

May162016m

Couldn’t get a clear shot of the ducklings no matter what I did.  Maybe time to try one of my auto modes?

May162016n

I’d never seen Moss Lady before – she was pretty cool!

May162016q

May162016r

And this was the last of my DSLR shots for my walk.

May162016u

I’m going to try for a walk and maybe a run today too – we’ll see what happens!

Gardening Sunday

A response in avoidance of the Daily Post’s Writing Prompt https://dailypost.wordpress.com/prompts/buddy/

We spent a good part of the day gardening, Well, gardening in the sense of the “weed the front yard, line it with bricks, and then shovel and put down mulch” kind of gardening, while Kevin did a little whipper-snipping and mowing.

Here is the new view from the front step.

May152016b

I still have a little corner to dig up in that there front yard (the side yard’s lawn will be next year’s project), although we may put a big pot there…a big pot meaning a bit clawfoot tub we can fill with bamboo.

May152016m

Here is the front yard from a side view

May152016o

And the other side…

May152016n

And now from the front.

May152016q

The front yard is now all ready to plant things in!

May152016p

And here’s what’s left of 5 yards of soil and 2 yards of mulch.  A little left to fill that tub with soil and mulch some of the back yard.

May152016l

And at the end of the day, when I was too sore to move, I sat on the deck and watched clouds while Kevin BBQ’d dinner.

All in all, a good day!

Finally gardening!

A response in avoidance of the Daily Post’s Writing Prompt https://dailypost.wordpress.com/prompts/healthy/

So yesterday I FINALLY got my raised beds planted.  No excuses.  I have just been not getting it done.  So now, here we go…

Sunflowers and potatoes

May142016a

Zucchini, squash and onions

May142016b

Beans!  Some are underground…

May142016c

Carrots and beets – yes, they are there.

May142016d

Kale and chard (and a little dill)

May142016i

Spinach, garlic chive, butter lettuce and a little arugula

May142016j

Tomatoes and peppers in pots

May142016g

May142016f

May142016e

And on the deck…tomatoes

May142016h

And peppers!

May142016m

As well as some additional herbs:  cilantro and dill

May142016n

May142016o

I also added some colour to some empty pots.  I still have a few pots to fill, but this was a start:

And finally, something that made me laugh yesterday (the “N” sticker is for Novice driver… the rest speaks for itself!)

Things you see when you look around

A response in avoidance of the Daily Post’s Writing Prompt https://dailypost.wordpress.com/prompts/underestimate/

I got to my first-thing-in-the-morning appointment early yesterday morning, so just wandered close by and looked around.  It really is amazing the things you notice when you take the time…

Chestnut tree with flowers spent

may132016a

Old blossoms littering the grass

may132016g

may132016j

A little bark action on the same tree

may132016k

may132016d

may132016e

may132016f

Looking up, way up!

may132016b

may132016c

may132016m

may132016i

may132016h

may132016l

may132016n

That’s the challenge – taking the time to just enjoy where you are in the moment.  And that is as profound as it gets today!
