Transformation
A response in avoidance of the Daily Post’s Writing Prompt https://dailypost.wordpress.com/dp_prompt/history-of-language/
Yesterday the painters moved to the main floor and the second major colour. It’s starting to look like a whole new house! There will be one more day of working at home to make sure kitties are ok, then tomorrow we can stash them all upstairs so I can go to work, and the main floor windows can be open and closed as needed without worrying about chasing down escaping kitties…
Anyway, before posting pictures of the overall painting in progress, I thought I would do a bit of a retrospective of our front porch, since it’s the part of the house that’s seen the biggest transformation.
Old…
Being repaired
Repaired
And just yesterday (note that the siding here will also be green – it’s just not painted yet).
And here, you can see a bit more of what the house will look like all over soon.
And, just because…
And, it’s back at it…sigh…

Well, here we are. Monday – and back to work today. Although I am, I confess, working at home today and tomorrow. The painters are transitioning from the second floor to the main floor and I need to keep an eye on opening wood windows and kitties while this happens. After they are done the second floor, we can lock kitties up there while the main floor is finished. But until then, there will be too many potential opportunities for someone to escape through a tempting window.
I am pretty sure I have a lot of catching up to do anyway, so I may as well do it here so I can sort out what I missed, and make a list of what needs to get done in the next few weeks.
Yesterday was pretty lazy. Kevin did put up a new light fixture in the “dressing room”, but all I did was laundry. And read a book.
Here is what the old light fixture looked like:
And here is the new one. I think it’s a big improvement!
I also realized that I forgot to post a picture of the ongoing painting in the upstairs hallway.
In addition to work, also on the menu today is to get back to running. I’m starting a little training program and will do a short, 1 minute walk/1 minute run session after work today. Then a little muscle and ab work, followed by a short spurt of painting in that hallway (to get another panel or two done). We’ll see how this turns out. Gotta have a plan, eh?
Happy Monday everyone!
In memory

While we did do a few things yesterday, like brunch with our friend Clayton visiting from Ottawa and a few errands, I didn’t take any pictures.
Except this one.
We will always remember Dexter.
A ballad of the Vacation
A response in avoidance of the Daily Post’s Writing Prompt https://dailypost.wordpress.com/dp_prompt/bedtime-stories/
Nope. I’m not going to write a ballad or a poem or an ode about the Vacation. It was full of ups and downs, good time and bad times, a bit of painting, a bit of walking, and a bit of chopping down shrubs and pulling out stumps. But it’s over now and it’s time to move on. By posting pictures of my final walk, that is.
Here are things I took pictures of yesterday because they made me stop and say, hey! I should take a picture of that.
And now, on to the weekend!
Yesterday
A response in avoidance of the Daily Post’s Writing Prompt https://dailypost.wordpress.com/dp_prompt/through-the-window/
Yesterday. The penultimate day of the Vacation.
I walked…those of you who have followed me for awhile know that there’ no real rhyme or reason for photos I take on a walk – here are things I just felt like taking pictures of yesterday.
I dug up the second stump (and this morning all the shrub waste was happily hauled away)
And I watched the first coat of the upper story colour going on…
And now it’s time to begin my final day of the Vacation. On the menu for today: a walk, lunch, painting a first coat in the upstairs hallway, and assorted odds and ends to get ready for the weekend. Have a good one!!
Vacay almost over…

Yesterday I renewed my passport. I luckily checked it on Tuesday and realized that the due date for renewing was Wednesday, so frantically I filled out the form, checked my references, got my photos taken and headed down to the passport office.
I didn’t take any pictures there, mainly because official locations like this make me feel like someone is going to jump out and confiscate my camera. It was kind of an interesting experience though. The gentleman at the entrance made everyone’s day by greeting everyone who came in cheerfully, guiding them through to the line-up, and wishing everyone who left a wonderful day. It was quite busy, but I only had to wait about 20 minutes (The woman I saw said she only works with renewals, and they are quick and easy. Apparently others would be in for a longer wait.)
Anyway, forms and pictures all in order (phew!) my new passport will be arriving in a couple of weeks, so then I’ll be able to travel somewhere outside of Canada. Not that we will, but I will be able to!
The rest of the day was spent hanging with kitties, painting the hallway ceiling again, prepping walls in the hallway for painting, and reading a book, while painting and wood repair continued on the outside of the house.
Today I think I’m up for some physical labour – walking and then digging out the other 2 stumps I have to dig out. Maybe painting the hallway, but I think I just want to get those stumps out so I can call a guy to haul all the shrub waste away. We’ll see. It’s still early yet. Early in the day, that is. The Vacation is almost over…back to work on Monday…
This has been a pretty wordy post today. So I’ll end with kitty pictures.
The end of a long day…
Stumped!

There are (were) several shrubs in our front yard, kind of taking over and covering everything. So, we’ve been taking them out in the last few weeks.
Here is one (well, there were two, one in front of the other) in front of the porch
Now here the front one is gone…
Now the back one is gone. The ugly scraggly stump is from the front one.
And now, after digging and sawing and racheting for over an hour yesterday, here is the stump from that front one. boo-yah! Now, if only I could actually lift it and carry it out of the way. Those stumps are damn heavy!
Now, two more stumps to go…sigh…
Oh, and I also painted the upstairs hallway ceiling. Nothing much to show there. It was white before, and it’s still white now. There was also a walk, but not many pictures (and the ones I took are still on my camera and not on my computer yet). Maybe tomorrow…
Ta da!

Purple!
And now, kitty pictures. It was a rough day yesterday, so I took a lot. Here is a sampling.
Is it Monday already?

Garden tour and a kitty pic. It was Sunday – what more can I say? One more week of vacay to go…
Black or purple?

While I touched up the spare bedroom (the few spots on the crown molding and the baseboards where I got some paint – I did better than I thought I would!), Kevin primed the tub.
Here is the tub before…
Here it is after priming…
I kind of like it black, but we were going to paint it purple to match the bamboo tubs (note that this is an OLD picture, as those of you who follow me will know).
Oh, did I mention the “new” tub is going in the garden (next the the garage-like structure) for raspberries and strawberries? Guess I have now!
What colour shall we paint it?
