September Writing Prompts, Day 20 – Waterspout wishes
From Putting My Feet in the Dirt (https://puttingmyfeetinthedirt.com/), September’s prompts are here: https://puttingmyfeetinthedirt.com/2019/09/01/september-2019-writing-prompts/
And today, the prompt is “Waterspout wishes”.
I have never heard of wishing on a waterspout. Wouldn’t all the wishes fly away never to be seen again? I think I’ll stick to blowing out candles…
September Writing Prompts, Day 19 – Solar storm tsunamis
From Putting My Feet in the Dirt (https://puttingmyfeetinthedirt.com/), September’s prompts are here: https://puttingmyfeetinthedirt.com/2019/09/01/september-2019-writing-prompts/
And today, the prompt is “Solar storm tsunamis”.
Holy solar storm tsunamis, Batman! Can you feel it coming?? You better run.
September Writing Prompts, Day 18 – Twin tornadoes
From Putting My Feet in the Dirt (https://puttingmyfeetinthedirt.com/), September’s prompts are here: https://puttingmyfeetinthedirt.com/2019/09/01/september-2019-writing-prompts/
And today, the prompt is “Twin tornadoes”.
I don’t ever want to run into real twin tornadoes; my work these days seems to be a series of twin tornadoes (metaphorically speaking) or maybe quadruple tornadoes. Then again, there are Elliot and Jasper, our own “twin” tornadoes, not being overly tornado-like right now…
September Writing Prompts, Day 17 – Refractive rays
From Putting My Feet in the Dirt (https://puttingmyfeetinthedirt.com/), September’s prompts are here: https://puttingmyfeetinthedirt.com/2019/09/01/september-2019-writing-prompts/
And today, the prompt is “Refractive rays”.
My life has been a series of refractive rays. From studying Pre-Veterinary Medicine, to being a musician, to getting my Masters Degree in Linguistics, and spending the last 20+ years as an instructional designer in elearning. Hobbies have also refracted, from tai chi, to kickboxing, to photography. We bend and refract to create the prism that is our life.
So philosophical! Guess it’s time for a glass of wine!
September Writing Prompts, Day 16 – Gale force flashes
From Putting My Feet in the Dirt (https://puttingmyfeetinthedirt.com/), September’s prompts are here: https://puttingmyfeetinthedirt.com/2019/09/01/september-2019-writing-prompts/
And today, the prompt is “Gale force flashes”.
Some days I have what I feel like are gale force flashes of inspiration, creativity, and innovation. Other days the gale force flashes are related to matters of being a female in my 50s. Some of you know very well what I mean!
September Writing Prompts, Day 15 – Misty mirages
From Putting My Feet in the Dirt (https://puttingmyfeetinthedirt.com/), September’s prompts are here: https://puttingmyfeetinthedirt.com/2019/09/01/september-2019-writing-prompts/
And today, the prompt is “Misty mirages”.
The future is a misty mirage. You think you see what’s coming, but it surprises you every time. You just have to hope you aren’t trying to get there too fast.
September Writing Prompts, Day 14 – Cloaked cosmos
From Putting My Feet in the Dirt (https://puttingmyfeetinthedirt.com/), September’s prompts are here: https://puttingmyfeetinthedirt.com/2019/09/01/september-2019-writing-prompts/
And today, the prompt is “Cloaked cosmos”.
This morning, I heard the fog horns, so I knew that the cosmos were cloaked in mystery. The apartment building behind us too…
September Writing Prompts, Day 13 – Frost flowers
From Putting My Feet in the Dirt (https://puttingmyfeetinthedirt.com/), September’s prompts are here: https://puttingmyfeetinthedirt.com/2019/09/01/september-2019-writing-prompts/
And today, the prompt is “Frost flowers”. Frost flowers are “any of a group of delicate clusters of ice crystals that form directly from water vapor, typically on the surface of sea ice.”
We don’t see a lot of these here, as we like in the one part of Canada that sees virtually no snow or ice. Now, that being said, the pictures below represent a week (well, less than a week) from this last February. I think the first qualifies as frost flowers, at least in the literal sense, if not the definitional sense. Will we see snow this year? No one really knows for sure…
September Writing Prompts, Day 12 – Orbiting halos
From Putting My Feet in the Dirt (https://puttingmyfeetinthedirt.com/), September’s prompts are here: https://puttingmyfeetinthedirt.com/2019/09/01/september-2019-writing-prompts/
And today, the prompt is “Orbiting halos”.
Ok, I was going to tell you what “orbiting halos” are, and indeed, they have a formal definition, but that definition is, well, astronomy-term-laden. So, let’s try something more informal.
Orbiting halos are circular things that go round and round. To see them, all you have to do is look up.
September Writing Prompts, Day 11 – Katabatic winds
From Putting My Feet in the Dirt (https://puttingmyfeetinthedirt.com/), September’s prompts are here: https://puttingmyfeetinthedirt.com/2019/09/01/september-2019-writing-prompts/
And today, the prompt is “Katabatic winds”.
“A katabatic wind (named from the Greek word κατάβασις katabasis, meaning “descending”) is the technical name for a drainage wind, a wind that carries high-density air from a higher elevation down a slope under the force of gravity.”
I like the part about the “drainage wind”…reminds me of some orange politicians who shall remain nameless on this blog…
Anyway, even a katabatic wind could not have stopped this candle from playing Happy Birthday. The candles were out, but it still played. I put it out on our deck overnight, and it was still playing in the morning. The only thing that stopped it was smashing apart the next day, with my bare hands!
