Christmas Advent Blog Adventure: day 4
A response in avoidance of the Daily Post’s Writing Prompt https://dailypost.wordpress.com/prompts/everything-changes/
Anyway, back to our Advent Calendar. For today, the two topics I will explore are:
From the Christmas Postathon (https://4wallsnaroof.wordpress.com/2015/11/30/the-christmas-postathon/): A Christmas book or story.
And from the Advent Calendar of Christmas Memories (http://adventcalendar.geneabloggers.com/): Christmas lights memories.
Today I’ll start with Christmas lights. I already covered this yesterday from a “today” angle, but in terms of memories, my mom and dad never put up lights either (so I guess I come by it honestly). They did, however, change out the front porch light for a green one. I remember it being a lot dimmer than the regular light, but at least it was Christmassy!
As for a Christmas book or story, I don’t think I’ve read a lot of Christmas-themed books/stories. In fact, sitting here trying to think of one, I am coming up almost blank. The only one I remember is A Christmas Carol, which I read a long time ago (I’ve seen all the movies though, well, all the good ones anyway…) So, over to you – what other Christmas books/stories are there out there and what should I be reading?
And now…a smattering of decorations and kitties.
Jazz Santas
Something apropos to our households…
What manger scene is complete without a pink flamingo? Wait – why isn’t that a zombie flamingo? Gotta do something about that…
And now, kitties.

A response in avoidance of the Daily Post’s Writing Prompt https://dailypost.wordpress.com/prompts/the-wanderer/
First, I must apologize for this late-day post. Our power went out at 4:00 am (apparently it was very windy, although I didn’t really notice at our house) and did not come back on until after 6:30. This threw off my entire morning, since I could not make coffee or access those there Interwebs, so I slept in instead hoping beyond hope that the power would come back on in time for me to have a hot shower (not in complete darkness) AND a hot cup of coffee before heading to work – and it did, so I managed to get to work clean, coffee’d up, and more or less on time.
Anyway, back to our Advent Calendar. For today, the two topics I will explore are:
From the Christmas Postathon (https://4wallsnaroof.wordpress.com/2015/11/30/the-christmas-postathon/): Christmas lights.
And from the Advent Calendar of Christmas Memories (http://adventcalendar.geneabloggers.com/): Christmas music (what songs are your favourites, etc.).
I kind of covered the Christmas music yesterday. I like all kinds of Christmas music, although traditional carols and songs are my favourites. I can be pretty picky about which “covers” I like though. A couple of old favourite traditional albums (yes, they were originally albums) are Eugene Ormandy’s Philadelphia Orchestra and the Philadelphia Brass Christmas album. Then of course there are classic Bing Crosby, Judy Garland, Mel Torme, etc, as well as every Jazz Christmas album ever made (special favourites include Oliver Jones and Winton Marsalis). More modern choices include Chicago’s Christmas albums (I’m a sucker for Chicago) and the Manhatton Transfer. I have them all on my Christmas playlist!
As for Christmas lights, I like them but we don’t have them. Every year we talk about putting lights on the house, and every year we don’t. We can’t even use the cold and snow as an excuse any more. Just lazy, I guess. I do love driving around looking at lit-up houses though!! And this weekend we may walk down and look at the parade of boats all lit up for Christmas in the Inner Harbour.
This is about our speed for Christmas lights!
And now, some kitty pictures for those of you who have been wondering where they went!
