July Writing Prompts, Day 7 – Myrtle beach
From Putting My Feet in the Dirt (https://puttingmyfeetinthedirt.com/), July’s prompts are here: https://puttingmyfeetinthedirt.com/2019/07/01/july-2019-writing-prompts/
And today, July 7, the prompt is “Myrtle beach”
So, the prompt today is Myrtle beach. I’ve heard of Myrtle Beach, well in so far as I seem to vaguely remember people my grandparents’ age talking about it, or maybe it was on TV back in the day. You know, those old ’60s sitcoms? Didn’t someone talk about Myrtle Beach? And what is a Myrtle, anyway? I would look it up, but I’m exhausted from today’s cooking and cleaning activities. Anyway, no Myrtles here…

I’ve been to Myrtle Beach, though it is too touristy for me, and I prefer the Outer Banks of North Carolina, such as Nag’s Head. Fewer people, nicer atmosphere. Myrtle is a tourist trap.
My thoughts exactly, Jill. Myrtle Beach used to be wonderful. Sadly, everyone found it and ‘tourist trap’ is what it has become.
Exactly. The same has largely happened with the towns of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge in the Smokies … tourism. Sigh.
Well, what do you know?!
Myrtle is also a common name of a plant aka Vinca.
I think I knew that – I read it somewhere…
Probably named after Crepe Myrtle trees, all over the south. I’ve been to Myrtle Beach probably 10 times, definitely more than 5. Is a beach. Is good. There’s golf there, so my parents like it alawt. For me, just beach 😉
I learn so much here!!
