Blogging from A to Z Challenge: A is for…Abandoned (#AtoZChallenge)
Welcome to my April 2019 Great and Powerful Blogging from A to Z Challenge!
I’ve revealed my theme (A picture-story a day (in the life, so to speak)), and as I have every year, I am going to be blogging my theme letters on the fly – this year I didn’t even plan to do otherwise! So, here goes nothing 🙂
Today, A is for…Abandonded – and yes, it IS still April 1 where I am!!
I though part of this challenge could be related to a couple of other monthly challenge I’ve been meaning to try out, namely the April Writing Challenge (https://puttingmyfeetinthedirt.com/2019/04/01/april-writing-prompts-2/) and the April Photo Challenge (https://citysonnet.wordpress.com/2019/04/01/april-photo-a-day-challenge/). As usual, I am making this up as I go!!
So, for April 1st: Writing – Foibles and Follies, and Photo – Welcome April!
Today, I took two walks. One during lunch at work with the trusty iPhone camera, and one after work (and after feeding kitties and having a pick-me-up coffee) with the big-girl camera (my trusty Canon 50D). As I walked, I considered what my A should be today. Didn’t take long. I am constantly amazed by what people have abandoned while I walk. I’ve seen it all: socks, ties, shoes, couches, glasses (how DID you get home??). Today was no different.
On my lunch time walk, I found something you don’t see often anymore. Smoking real cigarettes is becoming a thing of the past (or is that just wishful thinking on my part?) For those of you who can’t tell from my artistic B&W rendering, it’s a lighter (flaming pink).
Then, on my big-girl camera walk, the ball cap abandoned down by the ocean. I wonder if anyone will have the guts to pick it up and take it home? While we’re talking photography, I used my 50mm at F16 – hmmm, I thought I was at F11. Guess I need to actually look at the lens (I use Kevin’s old non-digital lenses with an adapter on my Canon). I am trying to work with depth of field… Anyway, it was a bright, sunny afternoon, so my shutter speed was 1/2500, and ISO was 800. 800? Oh, man. I didn’t even check that! Ok, I promise to do better tomorrow… And thus, my foibles and follies for today!
As for the Happy April part of my post, here is something NOT abandoned – tulips in my yard finally blooming! Now THAT says Happy April.
Thanks for visiting my 2019 A to Z Challenge – Letter A. You can find links to more blogs participating in this challenge at Letter Z, A to Z Challenge Master List (Google Docs).

Lovely idea for an A post – an do enjoyed your treasure hunt of abandoned items. Happy A to Z challenge.
Thanks! There weren’t as many abandoned items today as there sometimes are…
Lovely idea for an A post. I enjoyed your treasure hunt of abandoned items.
It’s always strange to see abandoned things like one shoe on the street. What happened to the other one, I always think.
Great start for the A to Z! 🙂
Me too – and wouldn’t you notice you lost a shoe??
Blogging on the fly – brave, brave, brave!!!
Terrific photos!
Thanks – blogging on the fly is the only way I know how to do it!
Great theme and I love the choice for letter A. You really do see some weird things abandoned – it always gets me thinking when I see one shoe dumped somewhere

I know…weird…
I never would have guessed that lighter was pink.
Reminds me of the short-lived challenge I ran last year presenting B&W images and asking folks to guess the colour!
I think grainy would work for that photo. Maybe I’m macabre but I kinda wonder if its owner went for a permanent swim, it looks so deliberately placed.
And YAY TULIPS!! Finally!

You’re right – I should have gone grainier! I am definitely on board with the macabre …
I’m so glad to see you participating in the prompts. Those tulips are beautiful!
Thanks! I was sure happy to see them blooming finally!
I always love the first signs of Spring. It’s my favorite time of year. 😉
At the park behind our house where I walk I have even seen abandoned underwear … I don’t even want to know!
Nobody wants to know…
Agreed.
I went back to your A one so I can go in order. I’m doing this too. Love the tulip photo, there’s something about it, the color looks a little aged which makes it cooler
Thanks! I do like making things look older and rattier…
