Just Jot it January, 2019: January 19

“Your prompt for #JusJoJan and Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “television.” Talk about your favorite show, past, present, or future, or about the apparatus itself. Enjoy!” (https://lindaghill.com/2019/01/18/the-friday-reminder-for-socs-jusjojan-2019-daily-prompt-jan-19th/)  These Jots are not only my 500-words a day challenge, but also part of my  Ultimate Blogging Challenge challenge (http://ultimateblogchallenge.com).

Television.  What comes to mind when I think about television these days is how it’s changed.

The age of a few networks, and seasons starting in September and running until May, if you missed an episode having to wait until summer rerun season to pick them up – these things are pretty much over.  Streaming shows of the web, Netflix, even being able to rent or buy DVDs (do people still do this?) have changed the shape of TV.  We have fall starts, winter starts, summer seasons.

And binging.  Don’t forget binging.  Entire seasons of old and new shows available at the touch of a play button.  Well, not always – depends on what Netflix is offering at any given time (especially here in Canada…sigh…)

I can also play YouTube and other online services on our smart TV, and stream as needed from my iPad through AppleTV.

All of which begs the question: how is it that there is still nothing on TV?

  1. I hadn’t seen a commercial in months, and then I went to the dentist and they had the tv on and E, I almost diiiiied. lol
I do still buy dvds — we do.

  2. The problem is, there’s always something playing on TV, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Whether you want to see it is another question entirely…
