Just Jot it January, 2019: January 14

“Your prompt for JusJoJan 2019, January 14th is brought to you by Janet! Click here to find her last post and say hi while you’re there! Janet’s word for our prompt today is “reflection.” Use it anywhere in your post or make it the theme of your post. Have fun!” (https://lindaghill.com/2019/01/14/jusjojan-2019-daily-prompt-jan-14th/)  These Jots are not only my 500-words a day challenge, but also part of my  Ultimate Blogging Challenge challenge (http://ultimateblogchallenge.com).

Reflection.  An interesting word.  Reflection is one of those words that can mean something “literally” (in this case, I mean visually) or figuratively (meaning referring to something that can’t be seen).

For example, when you look in a mirror, or in a calm pool of water, you see yourself looking back – a reflection. Related to this is something that is a bad reflection on something else.  Take the tangerine chief (you know who I am talking about).  Well, I would argue that he is a bad reflection (among other bad things) of the state of the American government, or at the very least, the Republican Party.

But, let’s not think about that…let’s think about this;

Or, in other words, let’s reflect on this reflection picture.  Reflection, as in to think about.  Consider.  You know.  You can reflect on things, in your mind, in a lot of different ways.  I mean, if I were reflecting on the picture above, my thinking might not be all that heavy.  I might think, this is calming and peaceful.  But sometimes you reflect on something to try to come to a decision – to try and decide how to move forward with something, like reflecting on something that happened at work and deciding that yes, that person is a jerk and I was right to do what I did – oh, not that this is about anything that happened at work today…not at all….

Of course, reflection is nothing like deflection, which is what I wanted to do originally when I started to write for this prompt today.  It’s nothing like refraction either, at least I don’t think so.  They start with “ref” and end with “ction”, so maybe they are related?  Probably not.  The “ra” makes a big difference from “le”, after all.

Ok, this post is quickly deteriorating (or deteriorated long ago) into something I think I should just end, even if I don’t reach my 500 words. Guess it’s just one of those days.  I’ll do some reflecting tomorrow…

  1. Nice use of the prompt. I agree with you about the tangerine chief.

  2. This post made me reflect on my day (in which Joey feels she accomplished very little) and I have to say, I did not have a single unpleasant conversation today. All the people used their good manners. Thank you for this brief bit of gratitude.
