NaNoPoblano – Day 7 (November 7): Vote

Go NaNoPloblano (National Blog Posting Month) (https://cheerpeppers.wordpress.com/) !  And day 7 of 30 Days of Thankfulness (https://mcclendonvilla.wordpress.com/2016/10/29/30-days-of-thankfulness/).

This evening, I am tired.  I spent the day as part of an interview panel, and if you’ve ever done interviews, you are exhausted at the end of the day without feeling like you’ve really done anything.  Always an interesting experience though.

But to my point of thankfulness today.

I am not American, but I can tell you, as one of a group of people who have had the right to vote for less than 100 years (which is longer than other people out there!), and as the beneficiary of many of the rights and freedoms afforded to me through people getting out and exercising their right to vote, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE vote.  I know it’s hard sometimes to believe that your vote makes a difference, but it does, and it will.  So, there you have it.  I am thankful to be able to get out there and put an X on a ballot (at least that’s the way we do it here in Canada – easy-peasy and no confusion!!)  So, dammit, just do it!

And I will tell you one final thing – if you don’t vote, don’t complain to me about the outcome!

And now, a picture of a kitten!

  1. Pretty kitty.

YAY! I have insured myself the right to complain, complain, complain. We voted in the early voting. 🙂 I wish that all we had to do was mark an X on the ballot. I don’t like the bloomin’ machines that I have to poke with a stick on a ball to choose my answers. Just give me the paper and pencil back and leave the machine voting opportunities for the young whippersnappers. 🙂

Have a blessed day…..let the complaining commence! 🙂

    • Last federal election, we voted early too – well worth it! As for the X, I won’t even begin to comment on my feelings around how the US elections work compared to Canadian. You guys are crazy!! 🙂

      • Not me. I’m just a victim here, forced to go along with technological changes that I’m just not prepared for. 🙂 AND the electoral college is just plain past its time and should be done away with. They aren’t required to vote the way we tell them to, so I don’t think we need them. Please feel free to comment on your feelings about the US elections. I probably agree with you. haha

  2. We voted last week and oh yeah, I can’t wait for all this to be over!!! With my candidate winning of course. :). #werewithher

  3. Well said. Three cheers for the vote! Women over 30 with property got the vote in 1918 here, but all women (over 21) could not vote until 1928. I can put this in a very personal context – my Mum, who has just turned 90, was born in 1926. My granny was definitely not a woman of property so when my Mum was born she would not have been able to vote. This is history I can reach out and touch. The vote was hard won and if people don’t use it I agree with you, they forfeit the right to complain. Even the ones that say they are not voting as a political statement. Good luck to America. The world is holding its breath.
