September 19-Somethin’ Challenge – September 11
This is Suzanne’s challenge at https://mcclendonvilla.wordpress.com/september-19-somethin-challenge/ , and according to her “This challenge is prompted by the song 19-Somethin’ by Mark Wills. You can hear the song here: https://youtu.be/UhSCeItgUEc The following questions are taken from the various lines in the song. There are also a few random questions thrown into the mix to make it a post a day for the month – 30 posts.”
The September 11th question is: What was your favorite music genre when you were young and on what format did you first listen to it?
Well, now that’s an interesting question. My parents pretty much only listened to classical music, given that they were both trained classical musicians. So, growing up, while I did have some disco albums (sorry Kevin), most of what I listened to was classical. Until late high school when I started listening to country music (hey, I’m from Saskatchewan). Now I’m catching up on my 60s and 70s (and select 80s) rock, punk rock, etc. I am not much for contemporary “rock”, but I do like the classics!
Here’s a “current” favourite!

Good choice! We saw Elvis Costello in July, he’s still great.
He is!!
How interesting that your parents were classical musicians. I think that’s great! Classical music, especially Baroque, can help people to learn and retain better what they are learning.
Who was/is your favorite country music singer?
Thanks for playing along. Have a great day!
Gotta say Lyle Lovett, and Johnny Cash a close second!
I don’t remember what Lyle Lovett sings, but Johnny Cash was great! Have you heard his version of the song “Hurt”, that I think was also a Nine Inch Nails song? While I like almost all of the Johnny Cash songs I’ve heard, I think that I like Hurt the most. I can relate to it in some ways.
That’s why I like Lyle and Johnny – they both step outside of the traditional to do songs and covers you don’t expect!
Yeah, really. I never would have thought of Johnny doing a NIN song. Can you imagine Loretta singing “It’s Raining Men”? haha
🙂
🙂
Classic! Completely forgotten the song, until I heard it playing. Thanks for the reminder 😊
You’re welcome!!
You have an awesome musical repertoire! A little bit of everything. 😀
I like to listen to lots of different things, that is for sure!!
Around here we like both kinds of music, Country and Western.
The Good Old Blues Brothers Boys!!!
Yep, that is where it is from.
