Wordless Wednesday: Relax

A Word a Week Photo Challenge: Cross

Trying another weekly challenge.  It took me awhile to find something to fit the theme (didn’t look far – just around the house, and really just the main floor of the house), although now I am starting to see them everywhere!

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge : My favorite things : verse one

And now for something new – a Cee Fun Foto Challenge (http://ceenphotography.com/2015/01/06/cees-fun-foto-challenge-my-favorite-things-verse-one/) !  I’ve been wanting to do this for awhile, and maybe have done it once in the past, but here I am, actually doing it.  So, here is my interpretation of My Favourite Things, Verse 1.  A creative (stretching?) interpretation, to be sure…and a little out of order, for dramatic effect!

Raindrops on roses – ok, this was stretching it.  It is a ceramic rose with drops of eye drops on it.  It’s winter, and there are no roses blooming (although there is a lot of wetness out there).

Bright copper kettles – well, it’s a bright kettle with a copper penny on it…

Warm woollen mittens (from my Saskatchewan days – the less warm pair.  Don’t need these much here)

Brown paper packages tied up with string (a package of soup mix with brown paper instructions and string!)

Oh, and those whiskery kittens!!  The one part that was easy to add literal images for!

Blogging 101: Say Your Name

Ok. So today I’m supposed to be talking about my blog’s name. But, I’ve already done that, and you can read about it in another Zero to Hero post (http://zombieflamingoes.com/2014/01/04/zero-to-hero-day-3-whats-on-your-mind/) I did last year. I like Zombie Flamingos, and it will stay Zombie Flamingos (the tagline stays too). Some of you may notice that in the URL it says “flamingoes” – yes, I know, I know, it’s spelled incorrectly.  So much for having a Master’s degree in Linguistics!

Anyway, Blogging 101 says:

If you’re already thrilled with your title or you want to do more, feel free to publish a post, too! Let readers know what inspired your title and tagline.

So, that’s what I’m going to do today. Just publish a post. And, as I noted above, you can read about the inspiration HERE (http://zombieflamingoes.com/2014/01/04/zero-to-hero-day-3-whats-on-your-mind/).

And for those of you looking for a pic, but maybe tired of seeing our cats (?What?), here is a picture of our Christmas tree that we just took down a couple of days ago. Always a sad day…

Oh, and a picture of our tree with a cat (Dexter) – just because!

Blogging 101: Introduce Yourself

First, a random pic:

So, today I am embarking on WordPress/Daily Post’s Blogging 101 course. Why? Well, just because it’s a way to jump start my blogging again, aside from getting back into some photo challenges (wait until tomorrow!) I do confess that, although I have been thinking about this all day, I encountered a few challenges after work that distracted me (mainly related to city beaurocracy and technology – not for the same issue), so I am probably going to keep this short for today.

So, the first post is to write and publish a “who I am and why I’m here” post. We are told that “the post can be short or long, a personal intro or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto or a simple outline.” And that “if you’ve already been blogging for a while, we still encourage you to do a version of this assignment: use it to revisit what you said when you first started blogging, to take stock of what you’ve accomplished and what more you’d like to do, or to lay out some goals for your next six months.”

So, let’s look back at where I started. Here is my original post for the Zero to Hero Challenge from last year:

And yes, the blog begins.  I am today beginning my first real journey into a personal blog (I do have a professional one, but more on that another time).

So, today’s assignment is to talk about who I am and why I’m here.

Well, first thing about me is I love to keep lists to organize me and my thoughts.  So, here are the questions that were suggested for us to answer, and my answers on this day, Jan. 2, 2014.

  • Why are you blogging, rather than keeping a personal journal?  Well, I do keep a personal journal, but it’s way too personal for the Internet!
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?  Well, whatever strikes my fancy for now, I think.  Besides work (which is covered in my professional blog) I am interested in running, all kinds of working out, photography, yoga, meditation, cats, jazz, cooking, bacon, and probably lots of other things that will come up as I get into the blog world!
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?  I don’t know that I’ve thought about this.  I would say, those who are interested in the same things I am, but I don’t know what I’m going to post about, so I guess the door’s wide open here!
  • If you blog successfully throughout 2014, what would you hope to have accomplished?  Something.  Something I’ve been wanting to accomplish for awhile, and just haven’t had the right motivation to do.  So, Zero to Hero is just what I was looking for!

Now. I think that’s all for now.  I guess that’s not a lot about me, personally.  My name is Emily, I live in Victoria, BC, Canada with an optometrist husband and 4 insane cats in a big heritage house that we will never be finished renovating, and I’m hoping to run my first marathon this year.   So, now I think I’ll finish until day 2!!!

Now that I look back, I don’t think I finished the Zero to Hero challenge (well, I know I didn’t…), but I did finish the April Blogging from A to Z challenge, which was a lot of fun. As for the content in my first blog post above, not a lot has changed, so here I am starting again! With another challenge. Maybe one I’ll get through this time!

Until tomorrow…

(Of course, I can’t remember now if there is a badge I’m supposed to link to, but here is the link back to this Day one challenge post:  https://dailypost.wordpress.com/dp_assignment/blogging-101-introduce/).

Daily Post Challenge (Week 1 2015): New

Ok, so it’s been awhile since I’ve posted, so to encourage me to come back slow and steady, I am going to try the Daily Post weekly challenge…  So, for this first week of 2015, we have New, specifically my New camera!  I’ve needed a new one since I destroyed my old one by falling on it during one of my long training runs way back in August or September (I destroyed my Cybershot, but finished the marathon I was training for – more on this another day).

So, introducing:  My NEW camera!!
