Random Moment of Delight 1

As I thought about this challenge Random Moments of Delight (http://firebonnet.com/2014/01/04/random-moments-of-delight-make-mine-on-a-motorcycle/) I was reminded of the ideas I had been having over the past many months of finding and noting the things (or even just one thing) that I can find in every day that make me smile – a random moment of delight if you will!  So, I’ve been thinking of this challenge all week and decided I didn’t want to miss out on it (hence the last-minute posting for it) and also that I didn’t want to miss out on finding a random moment of delight to celebrate.  Because I tend to take a lot of photographs, I thought I would start with some pictures illustrating what are typical random moments of delight in my days.  In future posts, I may just post words since I know sometimes that random moments of delight either occur when no camera is present (or appropriate) or in ways that just can’t be photographed.

So, for this first random moment of delight, I would like to tell you about Dexter.

My hubby, Kevin, first found Dexter online at UsedVictoria.  All four of our little monster kitties came from UsedVictoria, as did much of our furniture…  Anyway, he contacted the person putting Dexter up for adoption and we arranged to meet him.  She brought him over to our house, both to let us meet him and to do a house visit.  I should mention here that Kevin had been looking for Maine Coon cats online, and Dexter is a half Maine Coon half Devon Rex kitty.  The woman breeds both types of cat and Dexter (and his brother who had already been adopted) were the result.  Dexter was an adorable tiny little kitten (he’s the one on the left).

Here is was with our old cat Simon (who passed away a few years ago).  Simon didn’t care much for Dexter.  Simon was a 13 year old cat who just lost his life-long brother, Finnegan, a few months earlier.  We got Dexter because Simon was lonely, and he had a hard time adapting to a 3 month old kitten.  But, eventually he did:

A Moment of delight!

Anyway, Dexter has given us many random moments of delight over the 5 and a bit years we’ve had him.  He has 3 brothers now, and you will hear about them in future posts!  So, I’ll end this brief sketch of the delight that was us getting Dexter with a picture of Dexter today – a pretty typical shot (notice that he’s not tiny any more, although he is still adorable!)

  1. Oh my gosh, I can’t even tell you how happy I am that you joined my Random Moments of Delight in its inaugural week. I’ve got tears in my eyes (ok so I’m overly sentimental). This is a wonderful post. Animals bring so many moments of delight into our lives. They are so much easier than teenagers! 😉 Dexter IS adorable!
