Blogging from A to Z Challenge: D is for…Rineke Dijkstra (#AtoZChallenge)

Welcome to my April 2020 Great and Powerful Blogging from A to Z Challenge!

Rineke Dijkstra is a Dutch photographer, and much more contemporary than the other photographers I’ve introduced so far in this challenge.  Born in 1959, and living in Amsterdam, she is another portrait photographer – something I am definitely not – “[k]nown for her single portraits, usually working in series, she often focuses on particular groups and communities of people, such as mothers, adolescent and teenage boys and girls, soldiers, etc., with an emphasis on capturing the vulnerable side of her subjects.” (http://www.artnet.com/artists/rineke-dijkstra/)

You can view a whole raft of Dijkstra’s photographs using Google search .  Personally, I find them stark (maybe it’s the full-body nature of many of them) and sometimes a bit disturbing, but her use of colour and light is striking, and I encourage you to find out more at the links below.

Share Your World – March 30, 2020

And now for this week’s Share Your World

Pancakes, waffles or French Toast as your breakfast favorite?

No.

Do you think a person’s name influences the person they become?

Makes me wonder about people who name their babies “Waldo”.  (https://www.boredpanda.com/where-is-waldo-coronavirus-edition-book)

Would things get better or worse if humans focused on what was going well rather than what’s going wrong?

Yes.

Is math something that humans created or something we discovered? Is looking at reality mathematically an accurate representation of how things work?

This question did to my brain what math does to it…

RagTag Daily Prompt: Better

A response in starting over with a new daily avoidance (or non-avoidance, as the case may be), here with the Ragtag Daily Prompt , today is  Better.”

Every day is better with fire – a fire table on the deck while we BBQ, that is!

Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #91: Simplicity

Welcome to the Lens-Artists Photo Challenge!  The theme for this week’s Challenge is Simplicity.

“As the coronavirus pandemic spreads and intensifies, many of us around the world are spending a lot of time at home, following governmental regulations to shelter in place.  More and more of us feel like we’re returning to a simpler time–cooking our own meals, playing board games, reading (and re-reading) the classics, cleaning the house, and taking up hobbies like knitting, sewing, and gardening.  For me, this time also highlights the value of simplicity.  This week, for Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #91, we’re getting back to basics.  Show us what simplicity means to you.

This is it…
