Just Jot it January: January 2

Today’s prompt word is Drama  (https://lindaghill.com/2018/01/02/jusjojan-daily-prompt-january-2nd-2018/), and is “brought to you by Dan Antion, is “Boisterous.” Use it any way you’d like in your post. And make sure you visit Dan at his blog, “No Facilities,” to read his post and say hi! He’s very friendly. 😀 Here’s his link:  https://nofacilities.com/

First of all, I should mention that these Jots are not only my 500-words a day challenge, but also part of my  Ultimate Blogging Challenge challenge (http://ultimateblogchallenge.com).

And now, to Boisterous!

This will really be a stream of consciousness piece.  Boisterous I am not.  Nor is Kevin, nor are the kitties.  Well, not normally.  Elliot does have moments of boisterousness, for example when he runs around or meows plaintively for no apparent reason.  We live in a non-boisterous neighbourhood – non-boisterous, except for the neighbour who, on New Year’s Eve, was walking up and down the street banging on a pot.  At least it was at midnight, so we were pretty sure of the cause for said boisterousity.  Sometimes our other neighbours get boisterous when they throw a party.  We’re never invited to join them in their boisterousing, but it doesn’t ever disturb us.

Work is never boisterous.  Our offices are in a library, so boisteroustance is discouraged.  When you work in an open office (well MY desk is in the open – others have doors to close, but let’s not pick that scab…) it doesn’t take much boisterousation to get on my nerves.  Especially if I am trying to attend a meeting on my computer or talk on the phone.  Whoever thought open offices were a good idea never had to actually work in one all the time!  Oh, and I almost forgot the construction going on next door which, at times, borders on boisterous – more annoying for the folks who work (and teach, or try to) in that building.  It was certainly not boisterous today.  Students aren’t back yet, and everyone in the office was very quietly catching up after a week (or in my case, two weeks) off from work.  Have I ever mentioned how much I love working for a post-secondary institution, especially at Christmas time?

Our city does not generally indulge in boisterous behavior.  Except downtown during tourist season.  Kevin loves the crowds and their boisterous nature, while I prefer a more non-boisterous atmosphere.  Sometimes the seagulls can get a bit boisterous, screaming as they fly overhead in search of dinner.  And every so often the boisterous cries of the peacocks in the park cut through an otherwise unboisterous evening.  The weather here can also get boisterous, the winds wailing through the trees setting our little windchimes a tinkling.  We wonder sometimes if they bother our neighbours, and then promptly forget about them when the wind dies down.

Tonight, my life of unboisterous continues as I do some yoga, write 500 words for my blog post (phew!) and take some pictures for my various photography challenges.  The most boisterous thing happening tonight is a curry and smoked paprika chickpea, potato, and kale stew which is currently simmering on the stove.  Kevin will likely boisterously suggest, when he gets home, that the only thing that will make my vegetarian stew better is…wait for it…meat.  Probably the main reason I will never become a vegetarian (aside from, well, bacon).

Well, this piece is definitely confirming for me how hard it is for me to write 500 words about boisterous.  Let’s hope tomorrow is easier, and less boring for you!

And to conclude, our boisterous kittens…because we can never have enough kittens.

Flower of the Day: January 1, 2018

Cee’s Flower of the Day (https://ceenphotography.com/2017/12/31/flower-of-the-day-january-1-2018-happy-new-year/)

I sort of petered out of this challenge in October, so let’s try again!  Here is one taken just today at the park (sorry Saskatchewan friends) 🙂

Colour Your World: Bluetiful

January 1, 2018, and time for a new Colour Your World challenge to begin! (https://tourmalinenow.com/2017/12/13/color-your-world-120-days-of-crayola-2018-year-3/)

From Jennifer: “Color your world is a 4 month long daily blogging challenge event. Each day has a new color theme based on a crayon color in Crayola’s box of 120 crayons. The challenge runs January 1, 2018 to April 30, 2018. The week’s colors will be announced via my ‘This Week’s Challenges’ posts each Sunday and you’ll have the following week to respond to those 7 colors as you choose. Post, daily, weekly, or anything in between.”  BTW, I’ll be posting daily – there is no way I can think a week ahead these days!

Today’s Colour Your World is a new one:  Bluetiful!  (https://tourmalinenow.com/2017/12/31/this-weeks-challenges-december-31-january-6-owpc-ww-cyw/).  Here are a couple of examples from today!

And just for your info, here are the January colours to look forward to!

Just Jot it January: January 1

As I embark on a new year of, well, trying harder to write every day, I have joined a 31 day challenge to write 500 words a day. I also just saw a new blogging challenge, well new to me, called Just Jot it January,  and I thought, hey!  This would be a good way to blog my 500 words a day.

The rules for Just Jot it January, from Linda G. Hill (https://lindaghill.com/2017/12/27/what-is-just-jot-it-january-2018-rules/) are basically to Jot something down, perhaps using the prompt words, or not.  It is just a way to get you writing something in the new year (as far as I can tell).  So, my Jots will be a bit longer than some, since I am going with a 500-word “Jot” plan, but also plan on seeing pictures with my Jots, ’cause that’s what I do!

Today’s prompt word is Drama  (https://lindaghill.com/2018/01/01/jusjojan-daily-prompt-january-1st-2018/), and “is  brought to you by the lovely Ritu… Use it any way you’d like in your post. And make sure you visit Ritu at her blog, “But I Smile Anyway…” to read her post and say hi! Here’s her link:  https://butismileanyway.com/”

So, I wonder if my 500 words counts what I have already written above?  Probably not.  So, here goes.

Drama!

I try to avoid drama in life, at all costs. Unfortunately, sometimes drama creeps in, despite my attempted avoidance. From a day-to-day perspective, drama sometimes involves kittens – drama at mealtime, drama cleaning litter boxes, drama when Elliot fights with Nicholas.  We don’t know why Elliot hates Nicholas, we only know he does.  You would never know it from the pictures I post of him.  Drama also shows itself in planning for dinner: will Kevin be home in time to eat with me, or won’t he?  Can I wait for him to BBQ, or should I just cook something that can be kept warm for him?  And don’t forget thinking about what to post on my blog, or what to take pictures of (especially for my 365 projects).  Yes.  My life is full of drama.

Then there is workplace drama.  While it has abated somewhat in the past year, I don’t have many days at work without one drama or another. It’s amazing to me how people just keep pulling the same crap over, and over, and over again. Sometimes my workplace seems like a microcosm of American politics.  At least it doesn’t tend to affect me like it used to.  I have found that rolling my eyes helps a lot.

Right now, drama is unfolding as I try to figure out what to write about.  This is why I have to try to write every day.  Then maybe this stream of consciousness writing stuff will come easier.  It is a lot easier in my head!  Drama is also unfolding as I wait for Kevin to get moving so we can take a walk together.  I need to get out and walk or run every day again to get myself back into some semblance of shape this year – let’s get 2018 off to a good start, shall we?

Drama will unfold tonight, I am sure, as I try to go to bed early for the first time in 2 weeks.  5:00 am will bring drama on its own, but if I can’t sleep tonight, drama will dominate my first day back at work for 2018.  Yes, 5:00.  That way I can get some things done before work to avoid drama at the end of the day.  Or procrastination. That works too.

So, I can see now that all the avoidance in the world does not keep drama out of my life.  Perhaps embracing the drama is a better way to go?  Maybe someday I will get a book out of it 😊. Well, I am tired now, and while this post has not quite been 500 words, I won’t get dramatic about it – it’s close enough!

In the meantime, I will leave you with the drama that is currently unfolding in our living room.  Now THIS kind of drama I am happy to have every day.
