Blogging from A to Z Challenge: G is for… (#AtoZChallenge)

Welcome to my April 2022 Great and Powerful Blogging from A to Z Challenge!

 Today, G is for GlitchArt.

Ok this one is pretty cool, although again just another effects app that also works when you are actually taking a picture. Designed for the iPhone, on the iPad the interface is small but it still works.

There are quite a few apps that you can use to create “glitch” art on your tablet or phone.  I happen to have GlitchArt, but had some trouble finding out more about it online.  What I can tell you is that there are about 40 different glitches on this app, and I have tried to showcase ones that are unlike effects I’ve seen in some of the other apps I’ve talked about so far.

First, let me say that this app is really built for use on the iPhone as a camera app, but works fine with already taken pictures, and on the iPad although the screen is small (the size of the iPhone screen).  And it has some refining features with sliders and filters for the various glitches.

So, what is a glitch and how is it used for photography? “Put simply – a glitch is an error that’s intentionally caused to create an effect. To achieve this result, a glitch interrupts the regular code and data that make up an image. The interruptions take the information that’s already there and changes it in some way.” Glitch Art Photography

And now, here are some examples from the GlitchArt app

  1. Invert is kind of scary. Actually, all of these are kind of scary except the original.

  2. I had no idea this type of app existed! I decided not to show my cat 🙂

  4. Glitch! and GlitchLab for the android are both mega fun for creating edits on the fly. You get features like extrude which adds a whole new layer of madness to photos 😁
