Blogging from A to Z Challenge: D is for…Distracted (#AtoZChallenge)

Welcome to my April 2019 Great and Powerful Blogging from A to Z Challenge!

I’ve revealed my theme (A picture-story a day (in the life, so to speak)), and as I have every year, I am going to be blogging my theme letters on the fly – this year I didn’t even plan to do otherwise!  So, here goes nothing 🙂

Today, D is for…Distracted (And today’s April Writing Challenge and the April Photo Challenge themes are: Skinamarinky Dinky Dink, and Cute, respectively.)

Now, I don’t pretend to know what Skinamarinky Dinky Dink means, although I know the song says “I love you”, but I don’t think it’s ever established that “I love you” is what Skinamarinky Dinky Dink means.  But I suppose I could take it at face value, combine it with the Cute photo theme and come up with this:

I’m not sure if that adds up to a true writing challenge, but perhaps the rest of this post will.

I was working at home today, so came to a point this afternoon when I was ready for a break, and a walk in the sunshine.  As with many of my walks, I carry the trust Canon, and as I was walking came to realize that my theme today had to be distracted.  Because I was, distracted, many times.  By what, you may ask?  Well, have a look:

My first distraction happened as I walked down our steps.  Tulips loving the sun!

Then construction – can’t even walk down to the water without running into it these days!

I could have just taken pictures of the flowers, but the fence made a distracting frame.

Never saw this building from the path before – and the bikes were a nice additional distraction.

Not gonna stop to eat these mushrooms…

More construction…sigh…

And finally very much distracted by finding that the herons are back and building their nests.  I, of course, did not have the best lens with me, but I sat for awhile and tried to catch what I could!

  1. What a wonderful way to be distracted. Except for the construction. I think we all get derailed, distracted, and detoured by construction. Will it all ever be finished?

  2. Sometimes we can have very positive and beautiful distractions. That heron is spectacular!

  3. Gorgeous photos! Love the penultimate one, looks awesome. Also love the fact that you did all this on a single walk. It reminded me that there’s so much beauty around us if we stop to look.

  4. Lovely – how wonderful to catch the herons nesting! I love seeing them fly, they look so impossibly prehistoric! Where do you live? Liz http://www.poetryroundabout.com plus http://www.lizbrownleepoet.com

    • Victoria, BC Canada. They nest every year in the park down the street from us. Last year there were so many it was amazing – I am hoping for the same this year (if the eagles don’t swoop in).

  5. I love that one of the fence and the flowers. Great texture. So cool to have herons nesting nearby <3

  6. You got some great photos of the heron — it’s so hard to catch the awkward beauty of them when they are in motion!

I posted some heron photos last year during the A-to-Z Challenge under ‘O’ (for Ornithology 🙂 ). You can see them here, if you’re interested:

  7. Terrific photos!

  8. You had some very lovely distractions!

  9. I had an elderly aunt that used to say that all the time. I guess she remembered the song. Now I have to see if I can find it.

  10. I used to sing the “Skinamarink” song to the kids all the time. It’s from a TV program called “The Elephant Show.” Great pictures of the heron carrying nesting material. You live so close to the water! I use a Canon camera too and find it takes great pictures. Lovely post.
