Just Jot it January: January 1

As I embark on a new year of, well, trying harder to write every day, I have joined a 31 day challenge to write 500 words a day. I also just saw a new blogging challenge, well new to me, called Just Jot it January,  and I thought, hey!  This would be a good way to blog my 500 words a day.

The rules for Just Jot it January, from Linda G. Hill (https://lindaghill.com/2017/12/27/what-is-just-jot-it-january-2018-rules/) are basically to Jot something down, perhaps using the prompt words, or not.  It is just a way to get you writing something in the new year (as far as I can tell).  So, my Jots will be a bit longer than some, since I am going with a 500-word “Jot” plan, but also plan on seeing pictures with my Jots, ’cause that’s what I do!

Today’s prompt word is Drama  (https://lindaghill.com/2018/01/01/jusjojan-daily-prompt-january-1st-2018/), and “is  brought to you by the lovely Ritu… Use it any way you’d like in your post. And make sure you visit Ritu at her blog, “But I Smile Anyway…” to read her post and say hi! Here’s her link:  https://butismileanyway.com/”

So, I wonder if my 500 words counts what I have already written above?  Probably not.  So, here goes.

Drama!

I try to avoid drama in life, at all costs. Unfortunately, sometimes drama creeps in, despite my attempted avoidance. From a day-to-day perspective, drama sometimes involves kittens – drama at mealtime, drama cleaning litter boxes, drama when Elliot fights with Nicholas.  We don’t know why Elliot hates Nicholas, we only know he does.  You would never know it from the pictures I post of him.  Drama also shows itself in planning for dinner: will Kevin be home in time to eat with me, or won’t he?  Can I wait for him to BBQ, or should I just cook something that can be kept warm for him?  And don’t forget thinking about what to post on my blog, or what to take pictures of (especially for my 365 projects).  Yes.  My life is full of drama.

Then there is workplace drama.  While it has abated somewhat in the past year, I don’t have many days at work without one drama or another. It’s amazing to me how people just keep pulling the same crap over, and over, and over again. Sometimes my workplace seems like a microcosm of American politics.  At least it doesn’t tend to affect me like it used to.  I have found that rolling my eyes helps a lot.

Right now, drama is unfolding as I try to figure out what to write about.  This is why I have to try to write every day.  Then maybe this stream of consciousness writing stuff will come easier.  It is a lot easier in my head!  Drama is also unfolding as I wait for Kevin to get moving so we can take a walk together.  I need to get out and walk or run every day again to get myself back into some semblance of shape this year – let’s get 2018 off to a good start, shall we?

Drama will unfold tonight, I am sure, as I try to go to bed early for the first time in 2 weeks.  5:00 am will bring drama on its own, but if I can’t sleep tonight, drama will dominate my first day back at work for 2018.  Yes, 5:00.  That way I can get some things done before work to avoid drama at the end of the day.  Or procrastination. That works too.

So, I can see now that all the avoidance in the world does not keep drama out of my life.  Perhaps embracing the drama is a better way to go?  Maybe someday I will get a book out of it 😊. Well, I am tired now, and while this post has not quite been 500 words, I won’t get dramatic about it – it’s close enough!

In the meantime, I will leave you with the drama that is currently unfolding in our living room.  Now THIS kind of drama I am happy to have every day.

  1. Poor Nicholas. Poor Emily–that is way too much drama for one person. Oh, yes–eye rolls at work most definitely help. I wrote that into my job description. Looking forward to the January Jots.

  2. Yay! So glad you’re joining in the JusJoJan! 🙂 This is my fourth year, I think!

  3. Yay, good for you, Emily!! Much love and Light 💜😄 Happy New Year. Blessings, Debbie

  4. Smart cat. 😃

  5. I’m the same, in that I want no drama. …I think it’s great you are going to write 500 words a day. Like they say, the more you practice the easier it gets to get that many words in. Glad you are taking on the Just Jot It January challenge, as well. It’s fun. This is my 3rd year of doing that one. Good luck, and I’ll look forward to reading! 🙂

  6. I enjoyed reading your random thoughts of drama. This challenge is good for all of us. Keep it up

  7. Drama is best done in movies and books, not in real life! 🙂
