Recalling our trip to Ottawa – Day 2

A response in avoidance of the Daily Post’s Writing Prompt https://dailypost.wordpress.com/prompts/amble/

So, today is not officially a vacation day – it’s a stat holiday here in most of Canada (in BC, it’s called BC Day…just because we needed a holiday in August, and that seemed like as good a reason as any!)  Anyway, thought I would spend today’s avoidance prompt finally getting back to my actual holiday trip to Ottawa posts.  So, here is Day 2!

Day 2:  June 28.  Kevin goes to his conference, while Emily has flashbacks wandering around the places she remembers from 27 years ago.

Places like the University of Ottawa, which in some ways hasn’t changed at all.  Very flash-backy!!

The Music Building – brand new 27 years ago (I studied bass here…)

Tabaret Hall, where we played concerts

The Pit in the Student Union Building (still there?!?!  Wow!!  Dart boards seem to be gone though.)

The residences where I used to live – also brand new 27 years ago

Enough of the trip down memory lane at the University.  Now, off to wander around downtown Ottawa to see the sights – sights still there after all these years.  Here are some of those sights, in no particular order.

And I ended my wanderings in the Market for a late lunch – gluten free fish and chips, and non-gluten-free local beer!

And that evening, after Kevin returned, we wandered out for dinner at a really nice little place in the Market (just so you know, the Market is right across the street from the hotel we stayed in…which is why we always ended up there).

Then, we wandered down to Parliament Hill (before all the security was set up for Canada Day)

We got close to the stage to watch some Cirque-like stage testing going on.  This was the closest we got to actually seeing anything on the stage – Canada Day was way too crazy to get there – as you will see!!

Then we watched some protesting (Indigenous peoples trying to put a teepee up on the Hill – made all the news.  They were eventually allowed to).

And finally we returned to our hotel to find that someone had set off the fire alarm…an interesting end to a long and flash-backy day!
