A to Z Challenge: R is for Resolution

Welcome to today’s post for the great Blogging A to Z Challenge!

Today is R is for Resolution.

Resolution, as in how may pixels is that image (not that New Year’s resolution I had to learn how to better use my DSLR – oh wait, I guess that applies here too!)

So, the better the resolution (the more pixels it has), the clearer the picture, and the more you can crop and blow up sections without losing any clarity.  (https://photographylife.com/camera-resolution-explained)

The DSLR I have has a 10.1 Megapixel sensor, which means an image it takes have about 10.1 million pixels in it (http://www.digital-slr-guide.com/define-megapixels.html)  My point and shoot Canon SX700 HS has a 16.1 megapixel sensor, which makes sense because it is several years younger than the DSLR.  I also know that my iPhone 6 has only an 8 megapixel camera in it, but it sure takes some amazing pictures!  (One thing to remember is that a 16.1 megapixel picture will be much larger in terms of file size than a 10.1 megapixel picture.)

In the end, however, the reading I’ve done indicates that the bigger megapixel numbers don’t necessarily mean a lot.  It’s much more about the quality of your lenses, how you use the settings on the camera, and your skill level as a photographer (it really is all about practicing!)

Now, here are some pictures for you – nothing to do with resolution since I can’t really show you any comparatives, but just some pictures I took recently and thought were kind of nice.

  1. Resolution is something I quickly learned about when transferring photos from the phone to the computer. What an enormous difference. So many grainy.
Maybe I’ll do a post on grainy doors, too — lol!

  2. I’ve read that too, that more megapixels doesn’t necessarily make for a better camera.

    Your pics are nice. 🙂

  3. Love seeing your amazing work!
