So, as I posted last night, we had an earthquake.  It was pretty weird.  Kevin and I were sitting on the couch, at about 11:30 pm binge-watching the last couple of episodes of Jessica Jones (wow!) when it felt like a truck hit the front of our house (right behind us on the couch wall) (wow again!)   The cats FREAKED out and scrambled away madly, and Kevin immediately said “was that an earthquake?”

After he ran outside to make sure that a truck had not run into our house (interestingly enough, none of our neighbours were outside checking their houses…), we of course went online to Facebook where there were already many posts informing us that yes, indeed, it was an earthquake, the epicenter of which was in Sidney (about 19K northeast of Victoria) of a 4.8 or 4.9 magnitude.  This was followed by friends posting their experiences and commenting on others’ experiences until the wee hours of the morning.  Social Media, eh?

Everything is fine though.  No damage has been reported from what I’ve seen, and there have been no aftershocks.  And we finished Jessica Jones.  Wow!

There have been a few earthquakes since we moved here, and I remember feeling one at work a few years back, but that felt more like the floor slid under my feet (which was a very strange sensation).  This one felt much more violent.  Fun fact:  the first earthquake I was ever in (although I didn’t feel it – just saw things in my apartment on the floor afterwards) was in Ottawa.  Wonder if my brother knows that (he is moving there tomorrow…)

Time to finally get that earthquake kit put together!
